Subject obscured by camera and lens?

I have a continuous light source for my subject, but whenever I move my camera closer to the subject, I immediately get shadows on my subject.

What do I do to fix this? Move the light source to the side and use bouncing sheets?

I always use two light sources, One on each side, preferably with one slightly above the subject.
