That was my first combo! Original A7 with Zeiss 55 1.8. I still have both. The A7 is still one of my favorites. A while back, I tried using it with a Zeiss Batis 85 as a 3rd body, and its ancient AF was just too slow to get the shots I needed. Old school Sony indeed.

My latest combo is an A7IV with a Sony 50 1.2 GM... it delivers everything.

First image I took with the newly released FE55 ZA and the A7 on the 23/12/2013. I only sold this lens last month when I bought the new 50/1.4 GM.
The release of the A7 and it's successors slowly spelt the end of my love affair with the Leica M system

A great thread concept. A few to get started from the truly wonderful Sony a99 v1 - officially Sony called it 'SLT-A99V'. All I ever used on this one were CY-era Zeiss lenses, these are 1970s-1990s lenses.

CY 100-300

CY 100-300

Hey Peire,

This is a fun concept for a thread. From my Pentax days I remember some of SMC-P lenses you used in the wide angle post above. Good stuff!
I have visited poland at two occassions. Once from the west to the east leaving the country at Suwalki. Once from the north down to Krakow. My images are unfortunately not as colorful as the great sets you show us. Nore are they great.

Anyway, I checked the archive and indeed found a few Nex5 images still there.

Putting portraits and people aside I still like some of the images. The ones posted here are from a photo meeting in Berlin, October 2011.

That was during another era of the FM Alt gear forum. Sony cameras were still "Alternatives" and som at the time active participants met a couple of times in Berlin for beer, images, photowalks and chatting. Yes, it was another time...

Back then I was very much a 50mm-shooter. The images below are taken with either the CV35/1.2 or the Summilux-M 35/1.4 ASPH (pre-FLE). The Summilux was capable of beatiful images but unfortunately also not able to produce an image sharp from border to border due to the ugly mid-zone dip. The CV 35/1.2 flared when shooting against the light and often also produced ugly purple haze. I left the APS-C domain.

Above: Café Pause, a good landing spot after having arrived to Berlin. You just took the local bus from Tegel and landed at Kurfürstendamm where the coffeshop was located at a small side street. CV35/1.2.

Above: CV 35/1.2, a multirow stitch taken at the top of a Heizung-tower at an abandoned food processing facility.

Above: Summilux-M. Decay at the same place.

https://photos.imageevent.com/jonas_b/fotoforum2022andfw/d915_smoked_cables_webM.jpg
Above: Same location again, taken in a culvert. Lens unknown. I do however recall the 15 second exposure was taken in the dark with a handheld torch as light source.

https://photos.imageevent.com/jonas_b/fotoforum2022andfw/d784_rust_and_red_1.jpg
Above: Close to the Tacheles "alternative art" area. Lens unknown but probably the Summilux-M.

All images but the last one were processed 2011.

Hi Jonas,

Thank you for your kind words.I live in the south-west of Poland, in Wrocław,which is the capital of Lower Silesia. It's about 600 km south-west of Suwałki and 280 km west of Krakow. I've only been to Sweden twice. In Stockholm and Karlskrona.

Your pictures show that beauty is everywhere and you were able to notice it and catch it in the places hardly anyone would like to photograph.Thank's for sharing.

I remember well the times when Sony was an alternative brand and alt images thread had it's best days.NEX3/5/N will always stay a milestone cameras to me.They allowed to adapt more than 1200 lenses and use them with lots of joy, while gathering precious experience.

Thank you Peire.
Ah... Wrocław. Back in 2007 we (I and my better half) stayed two nights in your city. We camped those days and were very happy about our new waterproof tent until a thunderstrom prooved the tent specifications wrong. That happened at a camping site called something like Camping Olimpia.
We knew Wrocław for many years was known as Breslau but had no idea it had anything to do with the Olympics 1936.

We were tired and decided to stay, mainly resting, for an extra night at the camping site. ue to the bad weather we were looking for somewhere warm and dry. The nearby hotel was unfortunately closed:
https://photos.imageevent.com/jonas_b/fotoforum2022andfw/871_hotel_olimpia_pano1.jpg
Above: Closed, but the colors where nice at the time of sunset.

The option was to stay at the camping where they opened a small bar offering bottle after bottle of Leech beer. We were happy being able to dry and slept well before continuing the journey southwards. As I recall it we had a good time even if we didn't have a fair chance to see much of Wrocław. I do recall an exhibition with great images taken during the flooding 1997. Not a great time but interesting pictures.

We had a good time in poland 2007 and decided to go back following the coast before heading north travelling the Baltic states and then return by ferry to Stockholm --> Gothenburg.

Thank you for the kind words and all your images

/Jonas

Nice to see well known places! You apparently stayed at the camping site that is 10 min walking distance away from my house. The olympic stadium was built in order to take part in olympic games in 1936,though I haven't heard of any relevant sports activities carried out there.

Wrocław used to be german Breslau up untill 1945.After the end of the WWII,by the will of Stalin the whole lower silesian region was incorporated into Poland as compensation for Polish lands in today's Ukraine,Belarus and Lithuania, which soviets forcibly took from Poland.Historically Silesia belonged to Kingdom of Poland,Kingdom of Bohemia,Austrian Empire,Kingdom of Prussia and German Empire/Germany with influence of all that nations and their cultures still visible now.

All the best

Piotr

Very beautiful images. They have a painterly quality, which must in part result from the sensor used. I believe it is 10.3 mpix and slightly smaller than an aps-c sensor--is that right?

Do you have a view about what technical factors, and thus apart from your mastery, might account for the particular visual look of the images that I am calling "painterly"?

Thank you chiron for your kind words.Yes,it was 10,3 MPX and slightly less than APS-C.

In case of painterly lookI am not sure what factor may exactly be the major contributor.Yet I suspect bigger single pixel size to be very important.Lower pixel count cameras after some PP usually render more "plastic" images that their higher res counterparts.

What is your understanding of the "plastic" look? For me, "plastic" suggests something negative, but I am not sure that is what you mean here.

One would hardly know that the images taken in this thread were taken on cameras now considered by many to be too old to be used for good photography.
