Are we still on April fool's day?
Seriously, what a bust that firmware update was, at least vs what all the pundits were saying. I think the R5 needs a bit of a boost given where the competition is, but maybe they just let the camera soldier on until the v2 comes out. There is only so much you can seamlessly do in software.
The unfortunate part is, it's not that this last firmware was a bust but rather all the rumors were grossly overblown and even fabricated. We can't blame Canon for our sense of disappointment because they made no such claims. The click baiters are to blame and it would be interesting if Canon could go after them somehow for creating this negativity.
As an R5 user since day one, I think we all wanted and almost expected these fantasy FW updates to be real and earth shattering like the R5 was when it was released. No one including myself believed all the mindblowing specs of the R5 prior to it's official announcement. There was a lot of crow eating back then just a few short years ago.
If Canon does toss us a few crumbs to breath some fresh air into our (still amazing) R5's in the near future, then cool beans.
If not, then some folks like myself will happily keep clicking away with their R5 while lusting for the 2024 R5II, which I plan to skip.
Hopefully.
