Absolutely stunning display! Wonderfully captured as well. I've done a fair amount of travel around the world and seen a number of sights. But I've never been fortunate enough to see the Aroura display. What you've shown here is really special.

Thanks so much Michael! It was my first time photographing an aurora and I've never seen a more spectacular show over 4 and half hours!. While the camera picks up more color intensity than the human eye, one could see all these colors. The lights were also dancing and flickering in the sky. It was truly amazing to see.

While I have seen them before, I've never seen them like this. And this is really the first time I've been able to photograph them. It was an awesome experience. Thank you!

Thank you Mark and IndyFab! People around Minnesota are still talking about this event and posting images. The last time the northern lights were like this was 2015 and this show was so much better.

Wow...just wow! I live in Michigan but I've never had the privilege of seeing the aurora. The shape and colors of the aurora in the first image are breathtaking, and the second image almost looks like you're in the midst of a nebula, just unreal!

Out of curiosity, were you alerted to the upcoming light show by some kind of forecast based on solar activity, or was it a case of right place, right time? Either way, spectacular images!

Was this display a one-of-a-kind because of the recent solar flares? Or it is commonly like this so long as you come on a high activity day?

Thank you! I use an app called My Aurora Forecast and I pick a location where I want to photograph them. I then get alerted when a sighting is possible. In this case, I was also alerted by a few facebook groups that monitor NOAA Space Weather and geostorms from the sun. Already that morning, there was a buzz about large scale activity and then the app suggested a high KP index. There have been countless times where I simply didn't go or wasn't able to go as the location is 3.5 hours to my north. This time, I went and was treated to a show with an intensity not seen for the past 8-10 years.

See my post above but this event was related to recent solar flares and the intensity like this has not been seen for a long time at this location. The appearance of the northern lights is often just a green glow on the horizon to the north. On this night, it started that way and eventually was so large and moved so far south that it filled the sky in every direction. I found out later they were even viewable from my home in the suburbs of the Twin Cities.
