There's a surprising number of ProFoto shooters here, and I wanted to explore the idea of sharing modifier experiences.

What is everyone using at weddings ?

We shoot with B10's and the A1. A gridded Rotalux 27" deep octa on the B10's for quicker setups or handheld seems our most popular setup. The round dome diffuser or bounce on the A1 has been our go to modifier for dance/receptions while using the Profoto connect for handholding or up on a stand. We haven't used any other Clic modifiers except for the grids on the A1. We use the B10's on stands for larger group photos with a couple of silver Westcott 43" Apollo umbrellas that are surprisingly good at throwing light for group photos. Although, we'll probably go for the white version next. Westcott Apollo has excellent build quality too and is as good as Profoto, albeit, less expensive. We'll rent the A2 and a few Clic adapters this season to fill in gaps where needed for lighting. Profoto is getting creative with its A series modifiers such as the Magnum reflector that boosts the light by 1.8 stops. Hoping all have a successful wedding season!

Due to time (as in none) and wind (Rocky Mountain west) I'm limited on modifier use but I'm trying to work more in.

ALWAYS

Joe Demb flip-it PJ on-camera A10
OCF Barn doors on B10s, CLIC barn door on stand-mounted A10

SOMETIMES

10 and 30 degree grids on B10, 20 degree grid on stand-mounted A10
Fun color gel holders with a selection red, blue & purple for all the lights

NEVER (might need to unload)

ProFoto OCF Magnum reflector - usually only get it out when shooting in bright sun
Westcott 32" shoot through umbrellas - should've used 'em more for indoor groups this Winter

NEW (trying them out)

Westcott Rapid Switch Octa-S for OCF
ProFoto Softlight Reflector Dish (made for classic ProFoto heads - I've converted for OCF mount)

My goal for 2023 is to find my zen for softening light for portraits. Wish me luck.

Another modifier I'd like to try is the Westcott Rapid Box Switch Lantern. It's 360 spread might just soften the direction of standard modifiers while giving a nice catch light too.

Not sure I would want that huge globe thing at a wedding. Yikes.

Why not just throw up a large panel LED. same thing. Light everywhere.

I do 3-4x B10Xs for OCF and A1s for on-camera.

I have the OCF II snap-ons with CTO + 1/2 CTOs for each of the B10Xs, and I use the CTO or 1/2 CTOs when necessary for the A1s.

It depends on the venue. If the entire venue lights and ambient are incandescent I'll CTO or 1/2 CTO so I don't have to do much for WB in post. I always shoot in Kelvin + manual so my post processing time is quicker.

On a cloudy day, when we sometimes want a warmer tone, using a CTB and setting to ambient works, but use a CTO for more drama at dusk when set to ambient. Clic gels are perfect for this.

That also! I have the different colored gels for my B10Xs as well, but I didn't get the colored gels for my A1s--just have the CTO + 1/2s for those.

+1 for the Clic CTOs. I have 1/4 & 1/2. I cut a bunch of circles out of a sheet of CTO gel and stack them under the clic as needed. I normally use between 1/4 & 3/4, WB at 4000k and start there. Same for the formals inside churches, super tungsten most of the time... I can't remember an event where I haven't needed them indoors at the church or reception... I am surprised at how many good photographers I shoot events with who don't gel their lights!! Daylight flash with indoor tungsten backgrounds.... yuck!

On a side note. Do you guys use 9 or 12 foot stands for your Profoto lights (staying on topic sort of).

And has anyone tried the Magnum Clic or the Fresnel Click to gain power/reduce recycle? Sometimes I try to put an A1 further off the dance floor to keep it out of the way but have to jack up the power which kills my recycle/adds to overheating... The fresnel is tiny so I might try it out. Both have a 35ish degree spread so its semi tight...

I just went to get another as backup and I couldn't find them online...? These were my favorite and I use them every event!! I had a few different ones...
