I am the original owner of this Arca Swiss ballhead. I've obviously have had it a long time and used it a lot over the years. I haven't used it in quite a while so perhaps someone can use a solid and well made piece of gear. As you can see, it is well used, but it functions perfectly. The secret to these ballheads it not to over tighten the set screw. I've used this with 4x5 cameras and long lenses.

Folks, this is the real deal. An indestructible friend in good times and bad.
He's right about the pretensioning screw. It's designed to keep the camera from flopping over when you've loosened the main knob. It's easy for it to become too tight so that it retards movement when you want it. So you learn what tension to set it at.
