To those who "shoot the moon", do you like this technique ?

That was silly. The last thing I want is pesky humans "photobombing" the scene.
Years ago I used a small telescope with a guided GEM for the moon.

There was a documentary made by one of the Chinese TV station a few years ago broadcasted during the pandemics about photographers in China photographing the moon going through the opening of the Beijing TV Station building using Beidou satellite positioning and a couple to apps to precisely identify the position across town for the capture.
No need to apply those complex and error prong trigonometry, but rather just key in a couple of co-ordinates into the apps and out comes the answer.
That was also how I applied my calculation for hyperfocal from where I am to where I should focus without the need of using drones.

IKR (I know right).... my daughter's latest acronym -

Reference the link I posted above: I did not quite understand what all his hoopla was about trig. Huh?

As I remember, the few times I got serious about this I simply "googled" the time and azimuth of the moonrise in relation to where I was. I do understand that.

I think the photographer who planned the shoot made a mistake by selecting the wrong location as shown in the video at 2:22 where he pointed out the location of the hill top which was much further to his left. Even running left for another 10-20m during the shoot was still no where near where he should be according to the map he was pointing at to form a straight line between the moon, the humans and the photographer.
Next is with a 800mm lens at a distant of just about 135m from the hilltop (can't be sure without reviewing the video once again), the 2 guys are way too close or too large to fit onto the moon. Made worst by the one on the left flapping his hands like a young bird learning to fly which make it difficult for the photographer to properly frame the shots.
What the photographer need to do is to move back by a couple of hundred meters to make the human (one) smaller for the fit. This also depends on if the hyperfocal range can cover both or just focus at the moon since the man will be in the shadow.

Most of my shots that involve anything to do with astrophotography are aided by apps at this point. It’s so easy to plan things in advance.

We used calculators, then Lotus 1-2-3, and finally Excel. Are the Gen Z types unable to do simple trig? Then they screwed up anyway.
