I have an upcoming wildlife trip to India that requires a flight on IndiGo. I just found out that they are strict on their carry on limits and weigh at least some bags with a 7kg (15.43 lb) limit.

Really limiting my equipment I would like to at least bring:
400 2.8 mm
100-500 mm
2 camera bodies
15" laptop (depending on the page I read I might be able to put this in a separate small bag)

I currently have a Mindshift Backlight 36L which almost fits their dimension limits - .8 in (2 cm) too long. If I put the camera gear in that I'm at 20 lbs - 4.6 lbs overweight. I could shave a little by taking off lens/camera plates and taking out batteries, but I'm still going to be over.

Does anyone have any experience with IndiGo and overweight camera gear? I have a first class ticket thinking that would help with weight, but apparently it does not.

Are their any other lightweight backpack recommendations that would hold that much camera gear?

Scott E Vest. Move stuff like your laptop into the vest (perhaps a body as well). If done right, it's seamless. Then, after boarding, slip the items back in your bag.

I saw a person in front of me asked to take his loaded up vest off to be weighed with his pack in Vietnam. He was over the limit and had to put some of his equipment into his checked luggage.

Take your chances and be prepared to offload into your checked baggage if caught.

These look awesome - much better than the vests of old... All the pockets could be handy for just going out locally to hold extenders and phone.

I would have to make sure that nothing looked too bulky. Chez had a good point about being prepared to offload.

I had to change my carrier to Uganda when I discovered the carry on limit was 7kg. Don’t need the stress

Good move. Why chance it and stress over it.
