Love the first shot - and the other two really help set the context.

Beautiful as usual. I'd like to make some turns on those slopes. Love the last abstract.

Thank you, Jim and Mark.

Jim - I bet you would love doing a cross-country through the Highlands (on a still day, of course. We want you to come out of it alive.)

Super shots. I like the 1st best. The 3rd shot took me awhile to wrap my head around.

Parul & Dale - thanks much.

Dale - I posted that feature Rauðauga (in the 3rd image you refer to) on FM some years ago. Here's the link -

Wow, I'm amazed that you could access the highlands under these conditions!

Robin and Mike - thank you.

Robin - these were taken from the helicopter. From the ground, the Highlands are accessible via snowmobiles in the winter. Typically people go in groups (too risky to go alone) and only on good weather days. Sometimes locals with knowledge of their area take superjeeps if conditions are right.

Rajan - I was hoping to get to Iceland this summer with a trip to the Highland area. I was reading about traveling there and specifically there is a taboo with native Icelanders about referring to that area as the "Highland" not the Highlands (pl) like the Scottish refer to their Highlands. Is this true?

I don't want to piss anyone off. Thanks.

Bill,

The Icelanders don't take themselves too seriously and have a good sense of irreverence towards things. But they love to death their land and landscape. While the Icelandic word is Hálendi which translates to Highlands in the plural, I have not heard of anyone taking offense if you lop off the 's.' Those in the tourist industry have also gotten used to visitors mangling and mispronouncing people names and place names. There was no "Diamond Beach" until Instagram came along. It is always Fellsfjara for Icelanders. But now you ask about "Diamond Beach" and the Icelander will point you to it.

If asked to make a list of 100 things you have to worry about in Iceland, the deficit of 's' in Highlands wouldn't figure. Your bigger worry will be where to point your camera since there is a shot at virtually every step.

PS: Try not to call an Icelandic Horse a "pony."
