p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · PC question

I have a PC and the monitor went bad, it was connected via Display Port.
I connected another older monitor with HDMI connections. Started the PC and it's not recognizing the monitor. The monitor works when I connected it to a laptop with HDMI connections.
Anything I can do to make the PC recognize the monitor?

Thanks

Like on a TV, do you need to change the input on your PC? Don't know, just a possibility.

Have you disconnected the first monitor? You say "it was connected" so that seems to imply it is no longer connected.

Sometime Windows cannot detect a second monitor. If both are connected you may need to go to settings > system > display and then click "Detect".

If only one is connected but you are not seeing a display, are you sure the first monitor is bad? Maybe the problem is not the monitor but is the computer graphics.

This is probably no help. Sorry.

I think it's the monitor you need to change input settings on (or maybe both). Older monitors usually have buttons for either the whole menu or even one (that you cycle through) to switch from HDMI to USB, Display port, DVI inputs etc. Find that and make sure it's on HDMI (or maybe Auto) and see if the PC finds it.

Sounds like you may already have it on HDMI though if you connected it to a laptop OK.

may sound stupid but i assume you connected the monitor power cable in and turned it on. So you don't even see the PC post? just total black screen?

Can you connect using a VGA cable? Sometimes a low-tech analog interface will work as it bypasses digital interface drivers. That might at least let you see the BIOS POST screen. You may need to change the HDMI / DP setting in BIOS.

By the way connected or not to a computer, you should see some type of wrighting on the monitor when you turn the power on if its good, or at least working.

Or maybe the video card just gave up the ghost.

I suspect the simplest way to resolve this would be to attach a display to the DisplayPort output. Can you borrow one from someone? If not, try finding a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
