R7 battery Q

The R7 (I have one on the way) uses the LP-E6NH battery. I have a shelf of LP-E6 batteries from previous Canon bodies. Will the R7 run with these? Will there be a noticeable difference in battery life? Same charger?

They'll work, but won't last as long. I see a significant difference in runtime between the LP-E6N and NH on my R6. The charger is the same.

OK, thnaks. And just n case I get them mixed up, the new one or ones will still work in the old bodies? I suspect so, but I've got to ask, or I'll lie awake at night, imagining exploding 7DII bodies.

Any LP-E6 of any generation will work in any body that takes it. The NH ones are just optimized for mirrorless bodies that use more power.

Even though the LC-E6 charger has maintained that model number, you will see that amp output is different, charger that come with the E6NH batteries are 1.2A, the older charger are 1.0A. So I would charge E6NH batteries in the higher amp charger.

I have three LC-E6 chargers, one from the EOS R (LP-E6N), R7 (LP-E6NH) and R6 MK II (LP-E6NH). They're all labelled exactly the same: OUTPUT 8.4V 1.0A

I don't have any LC-E6 chargers from my 60D, 70D, 80D, 5D MK II or 6D, but the manuals spec' output at 8.4V 1.2A. So either the older LC-E6 chargers are 1.2A output, but newer ones 1.0A, or Canon has a long standing labelling/spec error.

Just took the LC-E6 charger out of my new R5 box - 1.0A. And the one in my desk drawer from some 5D or another - 1.0A.

Interesting. I guess that's why you don't make assumptions! I know the charger that came with my R6 Mark II is the 1.2A charger. When I bought a used one from a friend I was checking it out and noticed the difference.

Maybe they just upgraded it for the R6II generation. I just looked at mine and it's 1.0A. I think it came with my R6 but I did have LC-E6's in the house at one time so I can't be sure.

I just got an R6 MK II and took the charger out of the packaging today to look at it (been using the charger from the R7). And, like the others, mine is 1.0A. Maybe Canon sent you an old model? According to my old manuals, this model charger was rated at 1.2A a decade ago for the XXD series.

FYI the R7 is very efficient with battery life compared to a R5/R6. You'll get a little more runtime with the NH version though your lp-e6's will work just fine (maybe 10-15% less).

I don't remember now, but isn't the R7 like the R5 and R6 in respect to H and H+ fps rates with EFCS/mechanical shutter? IOW, you need the NH battery to get the green icon and thus the fastest fps rates in each mode.

FWIW, the charger that came with my R6II is listed as 1.0A.

I just tried an LP-E6N and recently charged LP-E6NH in my R7 with the same white H+ indicator. Don't remember reading about battery limitations with the R7 or R6II (for the short time I had it), but I quickly noticed it for the R5. Still, it wouldn't surprise me if the R7 slowed a bit as the battery became low.

I just use them interchangeably. I rarely drain a battery completely, preferring a full charge each time I go out. So I don’t really notice a difference in battery life. I often shoot just a few frames (landscape) or hundreds (birding) and it’s often the landscape use that drains the battery faster due to use of the LCD for longer.
