Probably the only danger comes unexpectedly from above so they are very cautious and alert to overhead activity. Stunning image

Cool shot. I've seen burrowing owls do this too. Its hilarious to see a group of them all tracking a incoming plane in unison. Don't know about other owls, but I wonder what the connection is.
