If I have a R6 why would I want a 1DX also?

1Dx is a lot more durable, better AF in certain situations, probably better weather sealed and can shoot higher resolution video longer without overheating.

But really though.. shouldn't you be able to answer that question? Why do YOU need a 1Dx? I'm not sure that you do.

Thanks for the answer. Don't really shoot in weather and never do video. Why would AF be better?

Assuming you actually mean the 1Dx and not one of its successors, I see no reasons other than the weather sealing, overall build quality, and battery life if you're adverse to carrying spares.

As for video, the 1Dx only goes up to 1080/30.

I believe the 1dx servo sampling rate is higher and would probably be better for very fast or erratically moving situations. For static subjects, the R6 is exceptional and would be tough to beat by anything (1dxIII included).

Oh...and many folks still love an optical viewfinder? Sure, it's nice, but I've gotten to so used to an EVF, I don't think I need to go back.

Good call... I didn't stop to think he was actually talking about the original 1Dx and not the 1DxIII.

Thanks, I just should be happy with the R6 and save some money.

The only reason I can think of is to hear that camera blast away like a machine gun. I miss that, now that I shoot silently...

I think maybe you need to tell US "why." Your circumstances and photography make a pretty big difference in the answer to questions like this.

The prices are coming down and I guess I just wanted to have a professional camera. Don't get me wrong I love the R6 and how it performs especially for my needs.

Outside of battery life and weather proofing, your R6 outperforms it in every other way. Get a battery grip and it'll feel more like a 1DX. (I used to have a 1DXiii and now have an R3/R5)

For your case, getting a camera like the 1DX is about the experience. On the spec sheet it won't outperform the R6 for most things. But, like getting behind the wheel of a classic sports car, the drive is enjoyable for reasons other than creature comforts or pure performance.

A 1 series DSLR is something every Canon shooter should experience at least once. I may snag a 1Dx original or MkII at the right price just for this reason. I have no rational "need". They are just fun to use. And still damn capable.

If you just want a 1-series experience pick up an EOS 1, 1N, or 1V. Way less money than a 1DX of any flavor. And a way different experience. I just got a mint condition EOS 1 off E-Bay for $100.

Not for me, I have an R5 and have sold all my EF lenses so that bridge is well and truly burned. I was in a bird hide the other day and another photographer with a 1dx2 sounded like he was using a machine gun, so loud it startled the birds…

Thanks for all the comments, the thought of a 1DX has now left the building.

I'm going out on a limb here and thinking that maybe it is more about having a camera regarded as being "professional" and not about having a camera with any particular set of features that is relevant to your photography?

If so, and if the camera you have works well, save your money. A 1DX is a fine camera for a certain kind of photography doing a certain kind of work, but unless there is something in its particular capabilities that will add to your photography in a meaningful way... perhaps you can resist?

Should get great photos using either. Might be a great backup. Pretty normal to last hundreds of thousands of photos. Heavier, pro build, no grip needed. Battery should last longer I believe. Prices on some EF gear might be ridiculously low.

I too have the lust for a 1 series body. But with the R6, there is a reasonable argument that even a 1DXIII is a waste of money. Of course its not that simple, but just saying the R6 is quite capable so the argument is harder to make than it once was (1DXIII vs 6DII, for instance).

Good times for camera guys no matter how you look at it. Modern high performance bodies at good prices, and old sturdy gear reaching bargain levels.

I'd say that if the current camera is falling g short in some objective, identifiable way... and the 1-series body can overcome that shortcoming in a significant way, then maybe yes.

Otherwise, no.

I'd like an opinion on the inverse question. If I have a 1Dx II in excellent condition why would I want any of the R cameras? (Also have 5D IV, 80D + 7 lenses.)
