p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Key Largo in August

We are planning a trip down to Key Largo this August. We will be spending quite a bit of time on the water and under the water, and we know where we are going in that accord. However, I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for for land-based spots to check out the local terrestrial ecology in the area? I’m particularly interest in macro photography if unique insects and native plants, but would also enjoy bird and reptile opportunities.

Thanks!

The only thing that I can tell you is that it is smokin hot and humid in August in the Keys. Spent a few days in Marathon and Key West a few years ago in the month of August and it was miserable for any outside activity other than sitting in the swimming pool. I remember that we went to Jimmy Buffet's restaurant in Key West for lunch on that trip, parked in front of the restaurant and had to walk maybe 30-40 ft from the car to the front door of the restaurant and by the time we got inside I was soaked with sweat. So just be prepared.

I’m about 25 minutes north of key largo and I’m down in the keys quite often. I think the Bahia Honda old bridge sunset photos I see are pretty amazing. If your into macro. Might get some nice sea shell shots while wondering around the beach. It’s pretty busy that time of year and would probably be best to visit it mid week
