I agree. it still feels like cheating when I shoot with the A9. I am using the A7s3 and FX30 for video work, so it's a complicated move, but I think there's no reason the R6II can't do just as well.

Mallards often have 10-12 ducklings and are lucky if they end up with one or two. This mother still has two. Most of the ducklings here are usually killed by mink, river otters, and raptors. Some will even be killed by crows, ravens, and GBH.

My second day of R6/2, trying all my stuff compatibility.

Cannot fix my 580EX2 flash to the hot shoe. All other flashes (90EX, 220EX, 430EX3, 600EX) could be mounted on and fixed. It's not a big deal for me as this was always a remotely fired flash, but I heard about the issue (and the solution with that AD-E1 contraption).

Funny thing is that the foot of the 580EX2 looks pretty close identical to that of 600EX, it's only as if the fixing pin was perhaps a wee bit thicker on 580EX2 and it doesn't fit to the fixing hole of the hot shoe.

Anybody having success with mounting 580EX2 on R6/2?

Remove the rubber "boot" around the mount and it fits fine, the pin locks in fine. Or use the AD-E1 contraption. Mine fits and works great on the R6 Mark II. The rubber boot has been missing from my 580EXII for some time.

Indeed! Without the rubber the flash locked just fine. I'll keep the rubber, as it gets fired remotely... Maybe I migh try to cut down the rubber to the dimensions similar to what's on 600EX.

Whiffling is a term used in ornithology to describe the behavior whereby a bird rapidly descends with a zig-zagging, side-slipping motion. Sometimes to whiffle, a bird flies briefly with its body turned upside down but with its neck and head twisted 180 degrees around in a normal position.

Still trying to get a shot of one in an upside-down position when it is whiffling.

Btw anybody successful to make R6/2 utilize the external flash AF illuminator?

I'm asking deliberately, I am aware that there's a built-in orange illuminator. But Canon is somewhat vague in the manual as to whether flash will illuminate red or not, and when I enable LED option, it will only use the built-in, in OFF case nothing, and in ON case the flash is using the unwanted stroboscope, even though it has working AF illuminator. The flash (430EX/3) has AF illuminator enabled in its C.Fn....

I haven't tried it yet but apparently the red AF illuminator does not work effectively with mirrorless the way it works for DSLRs. I believe the AF sensors in DSLRs are a lot more red sensitive and therefore pick up the illumination very effectively.

I want to try it "just because", since Canon seems to be mentioning it in the manual as an option, and perhaps as a tiny bit of battery saving for the hungry mirrorless.

The manual does seem to imply it's possible to use the flash's near-IR AF assist beam. I tried with a 600EX-RT and could not get it to work. Only the camera's little AF assist light was used. FWIW, the new EL-5 flash does not have the near-IR AF assist light of previous speedlites.
