Just getting used to mine.

One thing I have noticed is when I have it in electronic-shutter mode and Silent Shutter is turned OFF, I am not hearing any sound. It is just the same as if I had Silent Shutter turned ON.

Anyone else having this issue?

A new Canon user, but isn't electronic shutter silent by default? Regardless of the MS shutter volume controls
Beautiful capture BTW.

There is a menu option which sets a synthetic volume level for the electronic shutter. The R7 had this. Don't know what the default value is. The R5 didn't have this option.

Thanks. It may be silent by default, but some other Canon models have the option to give you an electronic sound even when shooting in silent mode.

There is no such menu option for the R6 II that I can see.

With the full electronic shutter selected, this camera does not produce shutter sound during image capture (though you might hear the aperture or other sounds). The electronic shutter is perfect for use during quiet events such as weddings, when photographing skittish wildlife, and during audio capture. The full electronic shutter has both advantages and disadvantages.

With no sound or other haptic feedback, knowing precisely when the image is being captured can be problematic, and adding a "beep" is counter to the goal of the silent shutter. Canon handles this issue nicely, with a white frame appearing in the viewfinder the instant the

Thanks. I had the 'beep' turned off because I find it annoying for confirming AF lock, but it is not until you activate the 'beep' in the Menu that it shows the other options for the 'beep'.

Here's a question about the R6II:

I disabled auto switching between the rear display and EVF. Instead I press a button to switch when I want to (in my case, the video record button). I've also set the viewfinder to sleep after 3 minutes. However, the EVF display goes black after around 5 seconds of not having my face up to the camera. If I brush the EVF proximity sensor, half-press the shutter release, bring the camera to my eye, etc., it will wake up again. But this isn't really what I want. I want it to stay on, at least for longer than 5 seconds. Is there a way to lengthen or disable this very short period before it goes black? I couldn't find anything in the menu other than the viewfinder activity period, which doesn't appear to actually have any effect on this specific behaviour. I tried lengthening the time metering is active, but it didn't change the EVF sleep behaviour.

The problem for me is that when shooting sports I frequently take my eye away from the camera for a short while to follow general action before deciding what to point the lens at. And if it's long enough (more than 5 seconds, which is easy to do), the EVF sleeps and takes a fraction of a second to wake up, which delays how quickly I can pick up following the intended subject and/or shoot. I have all of the power saving options set to sleep at three minutes, and if that is reached, then it takes around a second for everything to come back online, so there's definitely a difference in behaviour.

You can always tape over the proximity sensor before a game. The EVF uses a lot more power than the LCD which is probably why they don't want it active constantly.

The EVF wakes up faster than it takes me to check on the general action, but my reactions are probably slower than yours. It is certainly not a problem for my slothfulness .

In the Power Saving mode you can adjust the Viewfinder Off time. I set mine to 1 minute and it works great.

Which has nothing to do with how fast it turns back on, and that is what ‘rscheffler’ was asking about.

Yeah, I set all of those power saving setting to 3 minutes, yet the EVF still turns off if my face is away from the proximity sensor longer than 5 seconds. I'd really just like to be able to disable the proximity sensor and manually set how long the EVF stays on between button presses (shutter release, other buttons, etc.).

I probably just need to get in the habit of half pressing the shutter release every few seconds to keep the EVF on. It's not like battery life is that bad with the R6II. At football games I'm still at ~70% on two batteries in the grip at the half, and that can be a few thousand images. More (a lot more) if shooting at 40fps (with no noticeable hit to battery life).

It's funny how these small details kind of add up as I transition from the 1DXII. That camera reacts considerably faster IMO than the R6II, but the R6II's AF is considerably better in pretty much all respects.

Totally agree about the difficulties of moving from 1DxII to mirrorless. I am in the same boat and I felt like a total newbie when I got my R3 despite having been a paid photographer for nearly 20 years. I didn't do any paid work for the first few weeks as I got adjusted. It gets better.

Yes, after always being able to see through the camera with SLRs it's a bit surprising to put you eye up to the viewfinder and seeing black. I think I will be covering up the proximity sensor.

I've done this, and it will heat up the camera and burn through battery a lot quicker.
