I added a Canon M3, an APS-C mirror-deprived camera, which I really liked, but, kept using Canon DSLRs. Hurricane Harvey ruined the M3, and ended my foray into Canon mirror-deprived cameras. I still use Canon DSLRs.
I added a Nikon 1 V1, and used it enough to realize that mirror-deprived cameras do have some advantages, including auto-focusing with a TC + lens combination that resulted in an aperture effectively smaller than f/8, but, I have continued Using Nikon DSLRs. (My wife is a Nikon-only shooter, and the more-senior shooter, by far. I have shifted to Nikon DSLRs, since early 2018, so that we can share lenses and flash units, but still use Canon DSLRs for macro and close-range shooting.)
It is my wife who has added an FX Z camera, a Z6, with the 24-70mm f/4 Z kit zoom, and used it numerous times, but, she still loves her D850. She also uses a P1000, for the times that 3000mm is more important than an FX or DX sensor. Use the right tool for the task. The Z6 is an excellent social gathering camera.
We are following the Z9, recognizing its usefulness for “citizen scientist” nature/wildlife photography, especially in very low light. Being retirees, we do have to pay attention to our budget, so, there will be no big, sudden switch to Z. I doubt that we will stop using our D4s, D5, and D850 cameras, in the foreseeable future, just because we would have added a Z9.
Just as I shifted toward Nikon DSLRs, while keeping most of my Canon equipment, we will probably shift toward the Z system, while keeping most of our Canon/Nikon DSLR equipment.
