Uncomfortable straps? Look for seat belt pads at Amazon, Walmart and othrs. I use the genuine sheepskin. Soft and comfortable.

The seat belt covers are a good idea.

I do realize that a shoulder strap will not stay put all day but some are so slippery that they are all but useless. As I said before the grippyness of the UpStrap is terrific but it is not comfortable unless wearing a coat. So hot weather is out. The UpStrap is not exactly comfortable for long time carry. It is what is driving me to test out an Olympus OM-1. I would rather just find a strap for my Canon 5D IV and be done.

I usually carry on one shoulder and when I want to take a photo I take it off my shoulder and shoot then put it back on my shoulder.

I am not morally opposed to a crossbody type strap. with all the issues Back Rapid had I am not sure I want to go with there gear but I would be willing to try that style.

I just was looking for ideas for a standard strap that was comfortable and somewhat grippy. I have a Domke inbound and am considering a sling type strap to try out too.

forget blackrapid - try Custom SLR straps instead - much better.
They can be carried straight on shoulder, but ofcourse more secured across. Confort? only with can tell.....(ps: Amazon is great for returns

I use one of these about 3-4x per week while out walking our little pooch. Will not slide off your shoulder and grip is not a concern. Usually with X-T5 w 35mm 1.4 or Sony with 28-200 attached.

Works a treat if you’re ok with the single attachment via tripod mount. For bigger setups I definitely like the PD Slide or Slide Lite with 2 attachment points.

These ideas are all excellent. I appreciate it. Some of these items I never heard of nor do they come up when I try Googling.

I have a Domke inbound for my 5D IV. I will start with that and work from there. I am considering a sling strap. Who has the best tripod screw mount? I am thinking of trying the Magpul with a quick release.

The Domke Gripper arrived yesterday and I tried it out. It is good except for one major problem. It is too short. Extended as long as I can make the camera hangs above my belt and is not where I like it.

Disappointed as I kind of liked it but the length is a deal breaker

Yes, makes no sense to me at all. A cross-body strap stays on your shoulder, and why would you have to take it off your shoulder to shoot

Even more stable and comfortable is a harness type strap that goes over both shoulders. Any strap that has a neoprene section makes gear feel lighter as it absorbs shock better than non-stretch material.

What makes sense to me may not makes sense to you. This is why I started this thread. I find cross body annoying. Maybe with the right strap it would be better.

I am not open to some of those harnesses like cotton carrier. For my needs I want something I can take on off quickly.

Why do I need to take it off my shoulder to shoot? Just how I have done it for 50 years. I am thinking of trying the Custom SLR sling and the Magpul MS4. Maybe I can try a new method.

My other thing is I am looking at lighter gear.

Well if you are not open to trying new methods, then good luck.

I have to adapt to new methods because I am over 80 years old.

Otherwise, I would still be hiking around with a heavy DSLR and EF 500 f4 lens and a tripod.

Good, so you will not be posting in this thread anymore. You can troll other threads.

I am looking for a productive conversation discussing how people carry their gear and what they use.

You just like to troll and flame. Enjoy yourself.

Was on the UPStrap website. The following notes were there. So get stuff while you can.

"New production is suspended
I suggest you buy what you can while you can.
After 15 years I am taking some time off to travel.
I want to make images …of what is right with the world."

I also saw this note in bold and caps, wonder what his issue is/was:

"AND I WILL NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM B&H CAMERA!"

Hard to say. Maybe they wouldn't stock his stuff.

I'm a satisfied customer of both B&H and UPStrap. I use UPStrap SLR/LT HeavyDuty strap with HD release, with two sets of "Kevlar ends"; one for 500/4L IS and the other for 300/2.8L IS. I use B&H a lot more, of course. Probably an average of four times a year, over the past twenty years.

Heavy Duty Safty Pin - https://www.amazon.com/Safety-Pins-Large-Heavy-Duty/dp/B072BV2BQ9?th=1

The pins will keep any camera strap for falling off your should.

It's less painful than a staple Back to the Giant game.

The SLR Glide One Strap with Black C-Loop I and others recommended earlier will allow the camera to slide into position without disconnection the pin.

To second what others have said - due to the shape of the human trap/shoulder, any over the shoulder strap (non cross body) will fall off with a camera of any substantial weight unless there's a way to affix the strap like the epaulet or some of the other rigging setups suggested, which IMO seem awkward. I'd encourage you to take a second thought about the cross-body approach, it's simpler and less fussy than those rigging setups. If you find the right strap it'll be pretty comfortable too.
