I've got a Magpul, still adjusting the strap some, using it with a Sony 200-600. I did order a Pro Tec Deluxe Neoprene Non-Slip Shoulder Strap Pad (Model SHPAD12) from Amazon. This can be loose, sort of letting the inner strap slide, but it usually slides some with the strap as noted above. I haven't found the magic strap yet, that pads well, stays in place for the pad, doesn't slip off the shoulder, but slides easily when bringing the camera up.

There are plenty of single point type slings out there. Not sure the GI QD is great,

if your lens plate as a secondary slot at the front - made to loop straps, then you can indeed rig a security strap to the sling; this way when disconnecting the QD, it remains connected to lens and sling, while out of the way to mount on the tripod

I have the Magpul Dual Sling Gen2 MS4 Strap - Is the Magpul MS4 Rifle Sling Actually the Ultimate Camrea Sling

And you definitely don't have to worry about it coming apart. As someone here once said, anyone trying to snatch that camera from you when attached to the strap will take you with them

she is not wearing the sling as it should be. this (Magpul) one point setup makes it easier to position in front of you and higher instead of hanging off your side/hip and position/adjust as needed.

It's more a general problem with a QD mounted to the bottom of an AS plate, foot, bracket, etc. With my camera and/or L bracket, it can remain on the shoulder strap while going to/from the tripod. With the lens foot, I use a wrist strap to the lens lug for now. But using secondary straps of sorts isn't as "quick" as could be a direct QD to the lens lugs, just need to rig a small loop with a QD socket.

I should had mentioned that use it with a 500mm f4 - so attaching strap to camera is not a good option...
I use this guy from blackrapid:

There can be the odd case where it is better to have the strap cut or broken by a thief. A violent theft can result in the thief yanking so hard as to pull the owner over or injuring their neck.

Yes, it has happened with camera straps and purses.

Well, the difference is you image has the person carrying a rifle. The link I posted to has a person carrying a camera

I am on the continuing hunt for a camera strap.

What I want is an over the shoulder strap, not cross body, that doesn't slide off your shoulder.

I just ordered an Olympus OM-1 with 12-40 f2.8 lens in anticipation of replacing my Canon 5D IV. I am sure the factory supplied strap is awful.

I have tried the Peak Design Slide and hated it. The OP-Tech straps are comfortable when standing but walking the neoprene

I know you didn't like the Peak Design Slide, but consider the Slide Lite. The Slide has that fairly stiff section built in, but the Slide Lite is quite different.

My perspective: They both shoot and for accuracy are brought up to eye level to aim and execute the the action. in this position less distance and swing to do with either. and easier to slide adjust😉

I will have to do some reading about it. What I hated about the Peak Design slide was it was slippery, like a seat belt. It had grippy stuff but it didn't work. The stiffness was annoying when trying to put it in a bag. Had to be careful so it did not scratch the crap out of your gear.

hmmm - I have to try in the 'shooter' position. I have been carrying 'lady' style - the advantage is that I can keep it on while mounted on a monopod or tripod..
Maybe if I rotate the collar to have the foot upside down - I bet the R3 will be bumping into my rib cage - well, got to try myself and find out

B&H, Amazon or the zillion other websites have tons of straps. How can you decide what one you might like from a picture, description and reviews? I have bought stuff with great reviews that was trash.

A good example is the Peak Design Slide strap. Reviews and articles about make you think this is the best strap ever invented. IMHO is one of the worst straps made. The rubbery stuff does not work, the padded part is so stiff it has stays straight and is almost non-flexible, the little mounting pucks break if you are not paying attention and the quick release buckets scratch the hell out of your gear.

The reason I asked here is to get some ideas and narrow my search.

i agree with you about the PD strap.

actually those pucks hold up pretty darn well after they got through the first 2 generations. yes the backside of the lock assy is metal and a little electrical tape goes a long way there. the 3rd gen is pretty useful for some stuff. i have a few but not for their straps except for my RX100 and binocs. oh i forgot i use the puck/strings as zipper pulls also.

other then that i have little use for pretty much most of their stuff in general.

as i said in the beginning:

the basic issue is that nothing is perfect all of the time and everyone has different views of relative "comfort". "taste" varies widely.

so far, we know a few you dislike. tough sell.

you could have someone else carry the stuff for you. now there i agree that would be a higher level of comfort. and yes, i have had it done for me. i kid you not.

maybe shoulder carry isn't what you hoped it could be. there are others depending on the scenario you are working in.

I have an Upstart and like it for the most part. It grips excellent. The only complaint is with a thin shirt it can be a bit rough on the skin.

I appreciate all the info, advice and comments.

I bought the Peak Design early on. I want to say it was a Kickstarter item. Maybe they made improvements but if I have to add electrical tape to pad something on a $60 strap then I will pass. The Lite might be better in the flexibility dept. and maybe they have improved since the kickstarter days. I thought I sold the strap but today when I was cleaning out my camera closet I found it.

I also found a Kinesis Photo strap I forgot I had. I tried it on the 5D but it was not great on that camera. The camera is heavy and this strap is more for a light weight rig. I am going to try it on the OM-1.

I tried a sling strap before and do not like that at all. So yes having someone else carry it would be ideal but I can't afford to pay anyone and my wife will not do it.

I rarely drink beer but when I do I drink Dos Equis
And I rarely use straps but when I do I keep it simple and stick with Optech

For a mere $26 you can have any style strap you want
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1411549-REG/op_tech_usa_1001001_super_classic_combo_black.html

I tend to leave the loop quick disconnects dangling off the body and attach what I need to them.
