This is what 77.8 degrees south looks like, more commonly known as McMurdo station. Also this is about as far south as you can go by boat - from here, you either walk or fly. The Americans were assholes but in the end that didn't prevent some brave souls to go for a swim. For a moment we were the big excitement for the station population as one of the two supply ships was being unloaded. Some Minke whales made an appearance at the bow. Others were getting the various clocks explained by the first officer, as the captain watched the weather getting worse by the minute.

These aren't dust spots, dead pixels, or snow. These are antarctic birds, by the hundreds, flying above this iceberg. We were miles away and to say that the conditions were unfriendly would be an understatement. Gale strong winds were blowing and it was bumpy, making it pretty hard to keep the iceberg in the viewfinder in a tight framing - but you need it tight to get the birds!

I found a new bird blind. I've been trying to find new locations and putting it out on Flickr groups and sending emails to touring companies, etc. I guess being off season I'm not getting any replies. Knowing a spot is great but there is a lot of territory so you need to find the spot on the spot. I came across this with GPS coordinates if anyone ever comes here this is the most valuable link I have found yet. I know most of these spots and a few are my favourites like Salgados.

Hah thanks Jim, I wasn't very far away from her really and at 960mm, very easy to capture the detail in that light.
