Curious what everyone's current m43 kit is and if you are planning any change.

Mine currently is following
- OM-1 + battery grip
- O 12-100 F4 Pro
- O 8-25 f4 Pro (awaiting arrival)
- P 25/1.4 II
- O 100-400 + 1.4x TC
- Sigma 56/1.4
- O 45/1.2 Pro (Currently for sale)

Been tempted to pick up 40-150 f2.8 Pro as I remember it been a great lens when I used it many years ago but haven't found a need for it.

With 8-25 F4 arriving, I've been debating a about selling 12-100 as there will be alot of overlap but it is perfect one lens solution so I'm having a hard time letting it go. 40-150 F4 could be an option (to pair with 8-25) but haven't seen many reviews of that lens, so not sure.

Currently
Om-1
O 100-400
O 12-100

Just switched to Olympus so Looking to add
Couple of fast primes for grandkid pics
Flip flopping on adding 300 f4 as I shoot mostly wildlife (or save for the big white)
8-25 f4 is a tempting addition
And maybe 2nd body…..used m1-ii or m1-iii

Agree selling the 12-100 would be tough. just an outstanding lens imo

I think the Olympus/OM System excels with telescopic and macro applications, so my focus is on those lenses. I just sold an excellent 150-400 f/4.5 as it is overkill for me, a hobbyist, but picked up the 100-400 f/5-6.3 and the 300 f/4 in its place. I will get the new 90mm macro when it becomes available.

Future, I don't know.

I started with MFT around ten years ago, so I bought my first lenses when the more modern lenses weren't available yet. And I've kept most of those first lenses. I sold a ton of longer lenses when I thought I was switching to Canon for all my longer work, but when the OM-1 then came out, I instead dumped all my Canon long glass and bought Olympus long and Pro gear again, often used.

So, I have a ton of gear:

Two OM-1s (I've always had two of the same, so I can easily shoot them side-by-side);
Pen-f: don't use it much, but it's so gorgeous.

Zooms covering 8mm to 400mm (starting with the Panasonic 8-18 up to the Olympus 150-400mm); I do have complete overlap between the Panasonic 35-100/2.8 and the Olympus 40-150mm/f2.8 - one is for city travel, the other for car travel.

A ton of primes, because I do prefer primes and they are so light and small, so easy to throw in a bag. I do often have both the Pro and the regular versions. The older primes don't fetch enough money for me to consider selling them and the Pro primes are sometimes too large for me to take on a plane ride, but they are weather sealed.

What I'd like to see is a great 28mm equivalent lens that easy to zone focus. Same for a 40mm equivalent. I'm leaving for Japan in two days and those are the two focal lengths (plus the 35-100mm) that I most want to use, and the MFT offerings at those focal lengths aren't great for how I shoot.

OK, I'll play. I've been using m43 since 2010, when I needed a camera for a trip to Germany. Prior to that, I had been using a combination of Nikon and Mamiya (medium format) film cameras. I hadn't been much photographically involved, my focus was on running a business. From 2010 I re-engaged, and around 2016 added another system starting with the Sony A7R. Since then I've continued to use both Sony 35mm sensor-sized cameras, as well as m43.

I always loved the high quality, small & light lenses that were available, especially from Panasonic. Oly eventually went the route of larger, heavier lenses, which put me off those.

m43 Kit for Travel
Panasonic G9 (love this body, killer EVF, great handling & functionality)
P 8-18
P 12-35/2.8 Ver. 1 (this lens has a nice rendering, IMO, so never bothering updating)
P 35-100/2.8 Ver. 2

Other Stuff in Closet
Panasonic G85
P 7-14 (I still think highly of this lens, and have some great images from it)
P 14-140 Ver 1 (based on this sample, possibly an underrated lens. My wife's fav lens back when she still cared about using a camera)

If I could purchase most of the benefits of the G9 in a substantially smaller, lighter body, I'd be there in a heartbeat. The GX9 ain't that, unfortunately. My hope is that Panasonic don't turn their backs on stills shooters, to service video predominantly.

M1.2/M1.3
- 17mm, 25mm, 45mm (all f/1.2)
- 12-40f/2.8
-12-100/f4
- Voigtlander 60mm f/0.95

The future? I’ll sell probably the m1.2 with the 12-40f/2.8, I’ll add an OM-1, and (maybe) the Voigtlander 29mm f/0.8 or the 40-150f/2.8.
I love the system and if OMDS doesn’t go bankrupt I’ll keep to stay in the Olympus system for very long.

I'll probably add the Leica DG 100-400mm f4-6.3 for travel and video use, and the new Leica DG 9mm f1.7 in the near future. I'm also tempted to pick up a Lumix G9, but I know that if I do, Panasonic will announce its replacement the next day...

And I thought I had too many lenses!!! Looks like you two are enough to keep m4/3 alive

What do you guys do, with so many lenses overlapping?

@molson, good to see that at least someone is using Panasonic otherwise Olympus (specially OM-1) seems to be the more popular nowadays. Maybe because Panasonic seem to have abandoned photographers and has been focusing more on videographers.

I like the OM-1, but my personal feeling is that the Panasonic cameras are better in every way, except for animal eye detect in C-AF mode.

I agree. Back in the early days of m43, I always bought Panasonic bodies and lenses as they were way ahead in technology.
Panasonic's biggest mistake was going with DFD instead of PDAF.
So in your opinion Panasonic had better Eye-AF and IQ than OM-1?

Part of the appeal of 8-25mm F4 for me was being able to use filters, the same filters that I use for 12-100mm F4 too. No need to carry them together in the bag, but good companions nonetheless despite the overlap.

I will get a macro lens next year, most likely the upcoming 90mm F3.5. Hopefully, it will also have the same 72mm filter thread.

I am not a wildlife photographer so no reason to get a new body. I only need a second BLM-1 to extend the life of my E-M1 II.

I don't see much overlap, but to each his/her own. The primes are for low-light/subject separation. The next four zooms transition from one to the next fairly well, and the two travel zooms are for convenience. YMMV

For travel and video around the house: G100 + 12-35 f2.8.

This combo cannot be beaten for portability and image quality. One thing people overlook is the HD video quality between Panasonic and Olympus bodies. Panasonic has MUCH cleaner and sharper full HD video output vs Olympus. 4K is the same too, Panasonic video is much better than Olympus. I don't do 4k, I only do full HD to keep file sizes small and there are only a handful of cameras out there that do good quality HD. They are Panasonic (recent bodies such as G9, G85, GH3 and up, and GX9, GX8 as well), plus Nikon Z series, both Z6 and Z50, Panasonic S1/S5, and Fuji XT and XH series. Sony, Canon, and Olympus all have mushy full HD video. To get sharp video on those you have to use 4K and deal with giant file sizes.

Anyways I've rambled a bit but I use M43 (panasonic bodies) for clean HD video and portability. I will be adding a used E-M1 MK II and pair it with the 12-45 for an outdoor, bad weather kit. I used to have the 12-100 but sold it because it was just too big and was against the spirit of M43.

I might be adding the 8-25 to my E-M1 II outdoor kit in the near future.

For all other needs I also have a XT-4 with F2 primes and the IQ from the Fuji is noticeably better than M43 when indoors, so I use the Fuji indoors.

HaHa...maybe not much any more?

We went from Canon system to Olympus. The picture below is when I ran the ad to sell the equipment here on FM. I call it the family portrait.

We did not go too crazy in buying equipment for us but it seems we got just what we need. Wont go into the number of each of the items.

We are using the OM-1 as our camera bodies.

Lenses that we take on a trip:
• Olympus 150-400mm f/4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO Lens – Go-to lens for wildlife, gets used 90+ percent of the time.
• M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm F2.8 PRO – 2nd most used lens for wildlife trips.
• M.Zuiko ED 12-100mm f4.0 IS PRO - We bring it , gets used for walk around lens and landscapes on trip.
• Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14 mm f2.8 PRO – Rarely used it, ends up in hotel safe. Used on tripod for aurora in Finland.
• Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 60 mm f2.8 Macro –stopped bringing it but uses at home more or road trips.

We both have a 1.4x and 2x extenders. The 1.4x will be used on the 40-150mm F2.8 PRO for a little extra reach hand held. If something should happen to the 150-400mm lens the 2x can be added to the 40-150mm F2.8 PRO lens for 600mm equivalent at f/5.6.

Also own and seem to stay at home:

  1. Olympus 45mm f/1.2 PRO- Bought for trip to Africa for night water hole hide that is lighted from LED lamps. Thought it would provide more speed. Did not use it and have not since.

M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 300mm F4.0 IS PRO - At home in drawer as thought to save one for a backup for the 150-400mm.

• For lots of the wide angle shots I pull out the cell phone, I enjoy that 16x9 wide view. But if I was to do anything major with the shot I should have used the camera and proper-sized lens - I get lazy.

Patrick
