Anyone have the TTArtisans 50/1.4 here? I read the review on phillipreeve and really liked BastianK’s sample images, so ordered one from China. Shot some snapshots after school today with my daughter and did some test shots vs. 50GM and Sigma 65/2 yesterday. For $200, the lens is much better than I expected. It is actually pretty sharp in center at f1.4 and everything cleans up nicely by f2. Bokeh is really impressive. Here are a few shots at f1.4 and f2, except for the grab shot of the building from my car at a stop light - that was f5.6 or f8. I’ve only taken a few shots with but first impressions are favorable. Seems to flare a lot though, and first impression is that it doesn’t handle highlights too well, but that’s based on a handful of shots. Seems a good low light lens with great colors in those conditions. Reminds me of the ZM Sonnar 50/1.5 in that respect. I actually preferred colors in low light straight out of camera vs. the 50 GM in some indoors light, which surprised me.

Any users of this lens? What is your experience?

I impulse purchased it after reading that review, and then I owned three 50s - this, the FE50 and the SY45. I loved the rendering of the TT Artisan, but even with a 24MP body, I often failed to focus properly. And I get along the least well with the 50mm focal length. I know that for myself, wider and longer are where I "see" and I just don't have the technique to pull off manually focused shots like you do in your fine images.

If you like 50mm and you like manual focus, this is a great lens. The haptics are really nice, it feels like it will last longer than any camera body. I sold off all my 50s and replaced them with the SY50AF ii. It feels like the opposite of the TTartisan in many respects (cheap feeling build quality and autofocus) except the rendering, which is quite similar.

Moral of the story for me is that they do very good reviews at Philip Reeve but I need to know my photographer self better and deliberate more on my lens purchasing!

I love the lens (M-mount version) on my A7iii. Lots of vintage feeling to the files but with decent contrast and sharpness wide open.
