Mac Ventura OS and Epson printer (P800)

Anyone printing with an Epson and Mac Ventura (OS 13)? I've downloaded latest OS updates, and latest Epson drivers for more Epson P800, but I don't see full Epson printer menu--I can print, but I'm not getting the full Epson menu in Lightroom. I do have paper profiles I can select under color management, on the right side of print panel in LR.

But if I select "managed by printer," I don't get advanced printer settings, like "media type" showing specific Epson papers, and no advanced black & white mode.

Wondering if Epson hasn't yet provided full support for Ventura? I did find this page, but it's a bit short on details: https://epson.com/Support/wa00939

I have experienced the exact same problem on Saturday.

I could not investigate more, but I tried to reinstall the driver multiple times, used different programs to launch the print (DxO, LR, Preview), with the same kind of issues: it was impossible to set advanced settings and in particular impossible to set correctly the media type and the profile, and finally I got only very bad prints... So no solution yet. I would also be very interested if someone else could successfully troubleshoot this.

I was also using a P800, but I suspect the problem probably applies to other Epson printers too.

Thanks for the reply; glad to know I'm not the only one with this issue.

It's all there, just select your printer, scroll down to Printer Options, then Printer Settings and click on that and you will have the familiar Epson driver settings dialog box.

Where should it be ?
I see this nowhere. Neither in the print dialog box nor in the System Settings->Printers and Scanners.
In the latter, the only "Options" button opens a lame dialog box with just two tabs called "General" (in which all we can do is change the name of the printer...) and "Supply levels" (obviously not what we want either).

In the Lightroom printing module, open the Print Dialog by clicking Printer on the lower right, and then follow the directions above.

I tried this and confirm I am not getting the printing dialog box I was used to.
Are you using MacOS Ventura too ?

Which Epson printer do you have? Are you able to access Epson Advanced Black and White? I followed your instructions, but still can't get full Epson printer options, such as advanced b&w.

Here are screenshots from my Macbook Pro, running MacOS 13.0.1, and LR Classic 12.0.1.

This is exactly what I am getting too. Thanks for posting the screenshots!

@rytch0: I note you have Ventura too, so I guess there is hope for jimtron and myself; which version of the driver are you using ? Thanks for your help!

I had an issue with an earlier version of Mac OS where the printer turned into an "Air Print" printer rather than using the Epson driver. I just had to remove the printer and then add it again.

Noodle around in the Printers & Scanners control panel and see if you see Air Print somewhere. I think the "kind" of printer will say Air Print.

Thanks for posting those. I finally got my setup working.

I've also had a similar issue before Ventura, where I would get limited printer dialog, and would have to delete and re-add the printer. But after Ventura, that no longer solved the issue.

I think this is an Airprint issue as has been mentioned. I deleted my Epson folder from MacHD/Library/Printers folder, and then deleted the printer from sys prefs and emptied the trash, then restarted. Then I did a fresh install, with printer driver from Epson; I downloaded printer driver 12.6.2 (which rytch0 had success with) from their support site, page for my printer.

Then I added the printer again, but it still showed as Airprint 3.0. I had to delete the printer 2 or 3 times (from system prefs) to finally get version 12.6.2 to show. I never had the option of choosing USB vs Airprint. I did have the printer connected via USB.

So now it's working, hope this helps anyone else still with the issue. Frustrating, I've never used Airprint and never chose it.

Ok, this is very useful information.

First, I checked my System settings and indeed found the "Airprint" mention somewhere in the printer information. So, this confirms I am facing a similar issue. I removed it and proceeded with a new install. The problem is that I am not connected to the printer (long story short, I can access it only once every couple of weeks or so), and this does not allow me to finalise the install and get it properly displayed in the system preferences. Still, I am not optimistic as the install never requires me to select anything, so I fera the same causes will produce the same result (an Airprint install that does not give the chance to configure anything).
So I will bookmark this thread and get back to it next time I try again to print.

Thanks a lot for all your help!

I cannot believe how poorly designed this printing driver is...

To be more specific: when installing the Epson printing software without any printer connected, it installs many files in the /MacHD/Library/Printers/EPSON directory, but I see no executable, nothing that could let me confirm the version number. The file I got from the Epson website is called epson6506503eu.dmg, so I cannot even make sure the version number is correct (if it is 6506503, it is not, but that is a strange version number). Very poor software.

I experienced exactly the same issue and the following work-around worked briefly for me on an Epson R1900 but woudn't work after that.

In my case the problem seems to have been caused by the new 12.62 drivers which Epson posted a few weeks ago and which seem to have damaged Epson Printer Utility 4

I swapped my old version 9.8 for the new version 12.62 and briefly got all my Epson printer functions back including "Supply Levels".

On a Mac the folder which I removed and replaced was UT4 in this location:
HD Library > Printers > EPSON > InkjetPrinter2 > Utility > UT4

Going directly to "Supply Levels" from the Printer's menus didn't work but choosing Utility > "EPSON Status Monitor" instead let me see and open the Ink Levels.

This only worked once (and trying it again now unfortunately throws an error message) but it was enough to lead me to the conclusion that it is probably the Printer Utility module which Epson has broken.
------
Later:
I then found that I still had Epson's Printers 10.85 Installer so I used Epson’s UnInstaller to Uninstall everything to do with Epson and ran 10.85.
So far the printer is working and, so far, so are Printer Utilities.

Using 10.85 with M1 Mini running Ventura, works great.

I now have Epson 12.62 driver on Mac Ventura, and everything is working as it should, including printer utility and advanced printing features. Things do seem buggy though, as I mentioned earlier, after deleting library files and restarting and reinstalling driver, I had to delete printer and add it again several times in system prefs to get 12.62 to show.

I got to try this out this week-end, and am happy to report success.

First, I removed the previous install of the driver.
Then, I went in the System Preferences->Printers and Scanners tab and selected "add printer". That gave me the choice to install it with or without Airprint.
When I printed a picture for the first time with the new install, a pop up opened to propose me to "upgrade" to Airprint. No thanks... In any case, I can now set the paper and make sure that colorsync is active as it should. And most importantly, the resulting print was perfect, as I intended it to be.

On the other hand, when I tried installing it again with the downloaded Epson file, it would not ask for anything and just set it up as an Airprint device. Crazy software... It is unbelievable to me that Epson leaves such bad software around that can only ruin the prints on their highly capable printers.
