I've had 3 lockups with my R6II so far in just over a month of ownership. Had to remove the battery to reset things. I'm hoping there will be a firmware update to fix this at some point.

Any common themes when it happens? Specifc shooting mode, lens, etc?

First time I had a 3rd party lens attached, so I chalked it up to that. The other times I had canon lenses attached. My memory is that I was trying to access the review function for the other two lockups, but I'm not entirely confident about that.

My R5 locked up only once. When I first got it and put in a San Disk UHS-I SD (64GB) to update the firmware to 1.5.2. After the lock up and subsequent firmware update I swapped in a Sony G tough UHS-II SD (128GB) and never had the camera lock up since. I always format the card after a day of shooting in camera and choose low level format. Sad to hear others are still having issues with their cameras locking up. Seems to be something Canon should have fixed with the R6 II

Like many complex electronic devices nowadays, it gets harder for techs to troubleshoot intermittent problems. It is often not a single thing that causes a problem, but a combo of things. Adding third-party items to the 'party' can often make things even worse and harder to troubleshoot.

Even our smart computers can't even tell us what their problem is much of the time.

I wonder why Canon does not make memory cards? Probably so they can't blame Sony cards.

I had an R6 that locked up intermittently. Sent it to Canon and they wanted my card. Talked to
a tech named John and I suggested they send it back to me and I would try it with a new card suggested
by the tech. Got it back tried the new card and it locked up several times in a half hour. I've been troubleshooting electronics for 50 years and I understand intermittent issues with electronics. Sold the R6 to KEH and bought an
R7 which I would have bought instead of the R6 if it were available at the time. Love the camera. I guarantee you
that Canon knows they have an intermittent issue with the some of their R6's. It's just not worth their time and effort to resolve it. Nature of the biz.

From the other posts on this thread, it is apparent the lockups happen on other models besides the R6.

I own the EOS R, R7 and R6 MK II. I've used the R and R7 extensively and they haven't locked up even once (including with adapted lenses). Of course they've have been around much longer than the R6 MK II and updated with new FW. I've had my R6 MK II lock up only once in the past 5 weeks, so not really an intermittent problem, or at least not to the level of the prior model.

I have read countless reports of frozen R5s.

I have experienced a frozen R6 only once in 18 months of use. That was during burst shoots with the electronic shutter - which I don't do that often.

I just sold my R6 to an online company due to it locking up but not like what y’all are describing. I shot lots of races and my issue would be when the shutter was half pressed and tracking a runner the auto focus would just start jumping all over the screen. When it happened no buttons worked. Took a battery pull to fix it. It started causing me missed shots and only got worse when I started shooting some NCAA Basketball. Only used two RF lens and OEM batteries. Cards were rotated all the time so it wasn’t tied to one card.

I haven't read all of the posts, but if you haven't already done so, I recommend you use a high-quality, name-brand, V90 or V60 card. Personally, I use a Delkin Black V90 SD card in my R3, but I'm sure there are other cards of like quality. I don't mean to disparage Kingston, PNY etc., but I suspect a SD card compatibility issue could be the culprit. Good luck.

I started a new thread for 1.1.1 (and 1.1.2).

I currently have an R6mkII in the box as the freezing during event/wedding shooting is so stressful. I've had the main logic board replaced by CanonUSA and the problem was not fixed.

Installing 1.1.2 to see if this changes things but not holding my breath.

Such a pity.
