I got my shims, but I'm not sure what I did last time I took apart my 35/1.5 because it appears to be no longer back-focusing 🤨

I have 4* 0.05mm and 4* 0.1mm precisely laser cut stainless steel shims. Cost me about $175 AUD and turns out I didn't have to spend it.

Because you over-tightened or under-tightened something?

There's only the 4 screws 🤔
I was thinking maybe I under-tightened it but there's no wiggle at all. Over-tightening (if possible) would increase back-focus issues.

Temperature change due to seasonal changes? I swear my 50 Lux ASPH's RF calibration drifts over the seasons...

Could absolutely be the case but it was back-focusing in summer and winter 😅
I'll keep an eye on it, I think perhaps I wiggled and rotated the shims and perhaps they are inconsistent enough that the thicker parts of them align now and the effective shimming is enough. It's really quite strange but this sort of thing happens a fair bit in my experience.

EDIT: still backfocusing in actual focus/recomposed photos. Must be my technique, it's very consistent though... maybe I'll shim the lens for my technique and then revert it if I sell.

EDIT 2: Added a 0.1mm shim, giving me a total shim height of 0.43mm. Seems to have solved my back-focus issues.

Interesting, short nose-picking series of images above!

The Voigtländer wins the price, size and bokeh battle, but I am surprised at how far ahead the Leica Summilux is centrally, both with sharpness and micro contrast. No contest - pity.
