I'm struggling to learn how to handhold and focus with Zeiss Apo Sonnar 135 at the moment, either because I have a shaky hand or the shutter lag with electronic shutter.
I have a bit of relevant experience here, but not on an X system camera; I used the ZF.2 mount of the Zeiss Apo-Sonnar on the original A7r, and it was a challenge as well. Mind you, while the original A7r had some shutter lag, it had a working focal-plane shutter, which made things much easier.
That being said, the one bit that helped me the most is not yet available on the X2D, but is on the X1D series: focus peaking. Back on my A7r, I configured the camera for B&W JPEG output, because that also changed the EVF to be monochromatic. I then configured focus peaking (it worked with both red and yellow as the colour), which instantly made manual focusing so much easier and consistent, to the point where I could reliably shoot moving people.
Once the X2D gets focus peaking, it'll help a ton, especially if you can do a similar trick with the EVF.
