p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Hasselblad X1D, X1DII, X2D with alternate lens image thread

I just acquired X1DII, and learning to use it.
I'd like to start a thread for those who uses alternate lenses on Hassy X-mount camera.
So, we can share which lenses are good for this wonderful camera.
I know that there are Fuji mirrorless medium format, but I'd like to limit this thread to X-mount only for now.

Please share any valuable information that you may have which may help other members who like to use alternate lens on X-System, such as which adapter you were using etc.

I'm struggling to learn how to handhold and focus with Zeiss Apo Sonnar 135 at the moment, either because I have a shaky hand or the shutter lag with electronic shutter.
I'm using Techart Pro adapter to use Canon EF mount lenses.
At the moment, Zeiss Apo Sonnar is the only one I have.
But, I do like to get the EF16-35/2.8L III, because I've heard that it performs really well on this camera, albeit from 19mm onward.

Please share your pictures to inspire, and encourage me and other members.

In case you haven't already seen this:

https://www.dearsusan.net/2019/03/23/distagon-14-35-zm-hassselblad-x1d/

One of my favorite lenses in any mount is the Mamiya 200MM APO: https://www.pebbleplace.com/reviews/medium_format/mamiya_200mm_apo/index.html

I used it with stellar results on the Leica S2. This is where I feel for longer FLs, optical viewfinders are superior handheld than EVFs without IBIS. Magnified EVF at 200MM without IBIS handheld is like playing jello.

I have used that lens long time ago.
It is a wonderful lens.

I'm at a stage where I'm learning about this camera.
The native lenses are so expensive.
But, I'd love to own XCD 21mm for landscapes.

For now I'm using 25mm ZE with adapter.
I believe it becomes 19mm on this camera.
Here is one from it.

I'm curious, is your X2D set to 14bit or 16bit mode? I ask noticing the motion blur (from the sensor readout) on the cars, most visible in the lower left of the bridge. And is this shot handheld or with a tripod? Aside from the motion blur (which I can argue is interesting from an artistic perspective), the image looks good!

Actually, second question: are those specs of dust on the sensor, or on the front of the lens?

I have a bit of relevant experience here, but not on an X system camera; I used the ZF.2 mount of the Zeiss Apo-Sonnar on the original A7r, and it was a challenge as well. Mind you, while the original A7r had some shutter lag, it had a working focal-plane shutter, which made things much easier.

That being said, the one bit that helped me the most is not yet available on the X2D, but is on the X1D series: focus peaking. Back on my A7r, I configured the camera for B&W JPEG output, because that also changed the EVF to be monochromatic. I then configured focus peaking (it worked with both red and yellow as the colour), which instantly made manual focusing so much easier and consistent, to the point where I could reliably shoot moving people.

Once the X2D gets focus peaking, it'll help a ton, especially if you can do a similar trick with the EVF.

That looks like dust specs.

Sam,
Mine is X1DII, not X2D..though I'd love to have that camera.
And, the motion blur of the cars is from the slow shutter speed.
I took it on a tripod.

I think my hand-held skill is not so good.
Even with the focus peaking, the 135 Apo was not sharp.
I'll keep on practicing, but using this camera on tripod is so nice.

Here is one from ZE135 Apo on tripod.

By the way, the bridge shot had a speck of dusts on outer lens, and I cleaned them as soon as I saw that picture.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Here are couple from the combo of 85L and X1D II.
The AF is very slow, but still better than not having one...

It was very foggy today.

Hi Paul,

Is this the 25mm f/1.4 or the f/2? How is the vignette when using the full sensor?

Cheers,
Dan

Canon FD 50 1.4 at f/16 or f/22, ISO 100, Drive: Timer 5s, just placed on table
> FD to M Adapter > TTA M to XCD > 6x6 JPG no processing

You can do 6x7 just small corner vignette

I'm getting the TTA 35 APO from another member to try out on this X1D II.

Most interested in coverage since TTA said it's only small vignette.

Slow sensor readout speed doesn't really bother me since that's all I used on the GFX 50R when I had it.

You can even use the effect creatively lol

The light was from a bug zapper and just set WB internally.

TTA 35 f/2 APO M Mount covers pretty well, but WO has noticeable but correctable vignette and blur. It's kind of front heavy too, if I have the energy I'll go out and take some distance shots. Color and rendering are good, but contrast about as expected for cheap adapted.

This is processed with the Clear Skies LUT on Luminar NEO. No crop.

I am sorry for the delayed reply.

The lens is ZE Distagon 25mm f2/0

ZE25/2.0 vignette on X1DII, so I had to shoot square mode.
