After finishing harvest last Friday, my wife and I headed to Bosque Del Apache for a couple of days. It is almost a six and half hour drive but it was well worth it. We left early Monday morning and spent two days there. Wonderful trip and I am still going through images I took during the trip. It was quite a bit different than my trip last year as many different fields were flooded and the Sandhill Crane populations didn't seem to be as big as last year. Also the loop was shorter as they cut off the far north road that we were able to go down.

One of the worst things I saw was a guy had his camera and big lens falling off his tripod that he was carrying over his shoulder. The lens was a very big lens bigger than a 400 F2.8 lens and a pro body. The combo fell off of the tripod as he was carrying it and hit the hard gravel road. The camera detached from the lens and while I didn't see anything broken the sight was still ugly. I felt bad for the guy as we drove by him slowly. He reached down to pick up the set and it seemed I could feel his despair and hope that everything would be okay.

I had a great time and if the wife got to bored there will be payback later..........

WOW, nice shots. It looks like the crane roosting ponds are full this year. They were bone dry last year. Keep the shots coming, I plan to be there mid-December and your pictures are getting me excited.

The crane pool is always my favorite spot for sunset and sunrise and you captured the conditions there well in the first image. Great set from Bosque!

Thanks for the comments. It was really and enjoyable trip.

Interesting you only saw a few javelina this year. Last year there were lots of them at the turn of the South Loop. Great photos!

Great pics, especially the one in your earlier post featuring mist rising at sunrise. Do you recall which pond was it?

I am headed to Bosque in a couple of weeks. Can't wait!
