It is tradition to go to Port Stanley, Ontario located on Lake Erie each fall when the strong southwest winds arrive. If conditions are right, like they were on Monday, the waves are redirected off the pier and collide with incoming waves. The results can be spectacular! Images are shot from shore with a 500 F4

Good conditions for shooting include strong south west winds and late afternoon light. Perfect conditions would be dark clouds and late afternoon light peeking through the clouds

Sure shows that you are in shallow waters by the amount of cream in your coffee here! Those are spectacular images, and just think if it were freezing on top of that, that breakwater light would have been a giant cube. Curious if you shot any at a slow shutter speed too?

The addition of the light tower, if it is a light tower, makes the images really powerful. It looks that that structure was built to withstand that kind of wind force.

The lake there is all sand bottom and the water colour certainly reflects that. I've tried some at slow shutter speeds, but with the strong wind and no shelter any solid references like the light house get overly blurred. I'm not sure they make a tripod that would hold a 500mm f4 steady in that!
