I'm sure they think they're being clever, but what they are really doing is annoying people like me who might have bought. I was turned off by the way the price jerked around each time I went back to the site to ponder it.

Rude, they bumped the price up to 600-something, it's now over $500 after the BF20 coupon.

EDIT: Wow, they must be doing some cookie-tracking magic or something (or they're just all over the place playing with the prices behind the scenes), now it's $599, so $480 after coupon. I know it's just $16, but I think at $464 it's a buy for me; at $480 it's a pass.

I noticed a similar behavior over the last few weeks. I searched for the lens early last week and it was listed at $580, $464 with the 20% discount. I decided to wait and checked again later in the week and the price had jumped to over $600. I thought I had missed the discount window. I then checked again over the weekend and the price was back at $580, so I ordered. It's scheduled to arrive tomorrow, so we'll see. I had the lens before and liked the output but the AF wasn't the best in tracking, especially compared to the 55mm 1.8 I have. I also have the Sony 50mm 1.4 and while I like the lens, the AF tracking is not much better for tracking in my use. It's pretty slow to snap on and track my kids playing at the playground. I'm hoping that the Samyang AF is close to the Sony 50mm when I get a chance to compare them back to back as the size is great for a 1.4 lens and the image quality is very good.

Considering inflation it is a better deal than it was at the end of 2018 for the same price?

Will I feel disappointed using A7ii as a second body to A7RIV which is my first Sony mirrorless body ever?

I don't know that anyone can answer that for you, but the 7II is certainly lacking in the niceties and operational speed of the rIV, particularly when it comes to AF. Lower res EVF and LCD, single card slot, IBIS that's a generation behind, the menu system that's a couple of generations behind, and fewer controls for customization. As a back-up, it can certainly get the job done and the sensor's excellent in good light, but it will be a very different shooting experience from the rIV.

No keeping the A1 its just too perfect but a good backup that matches it is the A7IV as the A7c is not exactly the backup. I do like to bounce ideas around though on gear.

I still miss the lower magnification optics in the viewfinder. It has been a few models since I used the A7II. I tend to use AF-S and there hasn't been that much difference in AF-S performance except for the DC motor lenses. The A7II sensor is best at base ISO. The A7II has better battery life than the A7RII.

Do you use Eye AF? Eye AF on the A7II is barely useful.

The A7II has app support and some of those are useful.

What do you mean by lower magnification optics?
For me autofocus performance is not critical as I don't shoot people or moving subjects a lot. I don't need Eye-AF on that body as well.

A couple questions:
1. Is higher ISO performance bad/noticeably worse?
2. Does A7II feel sluggish overall?
3. Batteries are significantly worse?

When I owned Canon 5D3, I got myself Leica M9 as a second camera (both were for fun/travel) I knew what I was getting into but still its performance felt so aged compared to 5D Mark III so I returned it and stuck with Canon and iPhones.
Will the gap between a7ii and a7r4 be similar?

Optics in the viewfinder. I could see the entire display. Sony decreased the eye point/increased the viewfinder magnification with the A7RII.

1. Is higher ISO performance bad/noticeably worse?

It is an outdated FSI, gapped micro lens, single gain sensor. If you don't compare it to other cameras it will probably seem fine.

2. Does A7II feel sluggish overall?
3. Batteries are significantly worse?

These are kinda hard to evaluate as I had the A7III and A7RII between them. I don't remember the A7II feeling too sluggish. Battery may not be that different form the A7RIV. The A7III has very good battery life, and the A7RII had none. The A7II only comes with one battery. Sony packs two and a external charger with the A7RII. The A7RV seems back in the A7RII battery life range again despite the big battery.
