p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Bryce Natural Bridge

I had not been to Bryce in 9 years and forgot how beautiful it is. We did the 3 mile loop starting at Sunset point down into the canyon with about 1 billion other people. I left my camera gear in the truck because I was not sure what I was in for. Big mistake. The early morning light reflects off rock behind the hoodoos giving them a glowing appearance. After the hike, we drove to some of the popular lookouts. It was early enough that Natural Bridge still had decent light, so I created this 6 image pano stitched together in Lightroom.
Thanks for looking
Dale

Nice sunburst, fall color and lighting in the arch itself. Looks natural, beautiful.
I know the dynamic range to make this photo had to require some work, so my compliments to you on a great job!

A beautiful composition, especially with the sun in the scene! Nice work!

Thanks Gordon. Yes it did. I knew by looking at the histogram that I had captured all the data except the high end was blocked.. I was very happy after examining the frames containing the sun and finding they weren’t entirely blown out.

Thank you David. I was very please how the sun burst turned out. I used f10 to keep it relatively small.

I'm with Gordon complements on great work with a high contrast mid-day shot. Well done.

Dale, that is a beautiful composition and love the light you captured under the arch.

If you're going to shoot into an open sky directly into the sun then THIS is how you do it.
Very nice work on this Dale. At first I felt like you pulled the shadows up too much, but it feels very natural once you consider the amount of light reflection you would have in that position.

Thanks Jim. It was my only chance to shoot those aspen so late morning light it was. We have all been there.

That is exactly what went through my mind Dave. Just try to do the best with what you have. Yes, I did need to pull the shaded side of the bridge a bit. Hope I didn't over do it.

Dale, isn't that mid-morning glow great at Bryce?! The first time I saw it, it was about 10:30am and I assumed it was too late for the best light, but the sun was high enough to be producing crazy warm bounce-back from all the orange everywhere. I like your composition here and nice that you included autumn color. As others noted you did a wonderful processing job to have such a clean sunstar included.
