A first journey into the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado for fall photography, I was overwhelmed by the beauty and magnificence of this landscape. The aspen were so brilliant and intense I kept thinking that this has got to be one of the most beautiful places on planet Earth for fall colors. I visited all of the recommended sites on the northern and western sides of the mountain range, including: "last dollar road", CR 7, Hwy 550, Silverton, Ouray, Telluride and Ridgeway. I also visited CR 12 which included Owl Creek Pass area and Cimmarron Rd, (to be revealed in an upcoming post). The following photographs illustrate some of the incredible beauty that I experienced. I hope that you enjoy it, too.

Some nice pics, but I think you stepped on that first one too hard, what with the prominent halo along the horizon.

Thank you very much for your comment, "firesky". The photograph "Mount Sneffels, Sunrise", was a focus stacked 3 image set that was shot with a Canon 5DSR @ 63mm using a 24-70mm zoom lens. ISO 100, Aperture f/11. I merged the three images in Photoshop and created a tiff file and then processed the merged image. HDR was not used. Thank you for your question. Thank you, Jeff for your comment and critique! I greatly appreciate it and I agree with you. After looking at my raw file and then the processed print, I can see the halo that you are referring to. I will reprocess the image and see if I can tone it down some.

Nice work. I also see the halo and think it is worth working on - very nice shot overall. I'm afraid your edit is too obvious - perhaps a softer brush, or do it on another layer then lower opacity? I can also still see a slight halo right along the edge. Might be best to reopen the RAW (which I assume you started from) and take the usual suspects back to zero to see if you can get rid of it altogether.

Wow, these are ALL BEAUTIFUL! I was going to move from SLC to NC in August, but delaying it until October - and these photos make me glad i am delaying a few months!
