p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · They Look Nothing Like Their Parents

This is Arcyria denudata, perhaps the commonest of the slime moulds I find. Like many species, they emerge from the substrate, rotten wood, as formless, white blobs. Over hours or days they take on their specific shape and colours. They were photographed when they were white on 29 October and when they were pink ones on 3 November. They were probably pink by 1 November at the latest.

The white ones:

Olympus EM-1 (manual mode), Olympus 4/3 x2 TC, Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, f11 ISO 400, twin flash hand-held.

The pink ones:

Olympus EM-1 (manual mode), Laowa 25mm f2.8 2.5x-5x ultra-macro at f8 or f11 ISO 400, triple TTL flash hand-held. FOV ca 5-7mm wide.

The stereos will be uploaded later.
