Sunflower scene. Comments/critique appreciated.

My first impression is that I like it! Pleasing scene, dramatic clouds.

However, when I look at it a little more, it looks like there's a halo around the tree on the right side. A little bit too on top of the distant treeline between trees and sky, but most noticeable on that right side tree. Not sure what would cause that.

Yes, there is a halo. I was hoping it wasn't too noticeable. I darkened the sky using Sky Detect in Lightroom and that process left a thin halo around the tree and elsewhere. Is there a way to do that without leaving a halo?

You might have to refine the selection for sky. I am no expert but just my .02$! Beautiful scene though.

Sunflowers are so cool! They all seem to have their own personality! A wonderful image!

Yeah, my eyes immediately went to the halo around the tree, and then saw more halos along the horizon.

I'd suggest a linear gradient to darken the sky rather than a subject-specific mask. If the gradient darkens the foreground tree too much, you can take a brush to the gradient's mask to remove the tree from it. I'd recommend low flow with a large feather.

As good as subject selection can be, anytime a mask has a hard edge and is used to apply a significant edit, it will definitely reveal imperfections in that mask and begin to look unnatural, the bigger the edit.

Agree with the above. Lots of potential here. Looks like some powerlines should be removed too. I've had success removing halos by using the PS clone tool in the darken mode with a small brush.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I redid the sky masking using the brush in LR and I think the result is better. I also dealt with some of the power lines. They are not easy to eradicate on that busy sky.
