Yeah, my eyes immediately went to the halo around the tree, and then saw more halos along the horizon.
I'd suggest a linear gradient to darken the sky rather than a subject-specific mask. If the gradient darkens the foreground tree too much, you can take a brush to the gradient's mask to remove the tree from it. I'd recommend low flow with a large feather.
As good as subject selection can be, anytime a mask has a hard edge and is used to apply a significant edit, it will definitely reveal imperfections in that mask and begin to look unnatural, the bigger the edit.
