Back in April I was lucky to secure a walk-in permit to Coyote Buttes south. Used Paria Outfitters for a tour and it was absolutely worth it as the soft sand road was tough to navigate even for folks who do it on daily basis. We started our day around 11:30am at the park and it was nice overcast day but no rain in forecast. So had nice soft light due to the cloud cover. Coyote Buttes have many amazing rock formations and colors and one could spends weeks photographing. Here is my version of the South Coyote Buttes Wave. I feel like the wave would really be amazing to photograph if there would be interesting clouds. But I still can't complaint as I had nice soft light all day and not very cold.

Do you have any shots of the actual wave area? Your first shot isn't of what is normally called the wave.

Jim, the wave image you are referring is the wave at North CB. The one posted in the post is called the wave too and it’s located inside South CB. I knew viewers would get confused hence I mentioned SCB in the title. Thanks

Thanks for the explanation. Did you see many people? I would think that that wave might be quieter.

Nice shots. I got flat blue skies so lots of contrast when I visited.

Used the same outfitter (great company by the way) to visit South Coyote Butte. Nice in that myself and the outfitter were the only two out there! I could take my time and explore. I have a similar shot to your second one but a little tighter crop. Beautiful area and significantly under explored compared to the NCB area. The drive in and out was entertaining.

For CB south only 20 visitors are allowed per day. 10 permits are issued on line and 10 vis walk-in lottery system. Hence, it never feels crowded. It’s quite a large area and extremely beautiful.

Thanks Bob, I agree about Paria outfitters they were awesome! We were 6 in our group and one guide is allowed to take maximum 5 people so for one extra person they took 2 suburban and 2 guides. Drive was definitely entertaining and at times scary. SCB is under explored and so gorgeous for our entire time at the park we didn't see anyone. Will definitely be back again.

Thank you David, some of the rock formations and just incredible. One has to go couple of times to get a good feel of the park.

Not really sure, I was mainly going for the curves lines in the wave before getting to the top. I don't think a ultra wide would have helped in this scene as it would have included other areas around the actual wave. But then again it's one of those things..... could have would have

Don`t get me wrong I love what you got there. All I wanted to say is I always enjoy when you get the chance to get up close with an UWA to some interesting "object" with great background - I see such opportunity here

Thank you very much! Yes, it's a very neat area to explore, just make sure that you reserve your slot 3 months in advance. Only 10 epermits are issues online.

Very true about light and no harsh light. At first I was bummed but as the day progressed I liked the nice soft light through out the day.
