I’ve been thrilled with the new stabilisation, Ive yet to see any artefacts in outdoor images on a tripod, whereas I found the shift of the r4 unusable outdoors on a tripod. And it’s nice to have an IQ based excuse to use a tripod, to play out my large format fantasies…

No, there’s no reason to pixelshifttoDNG if you are using Lightroom. Especially as the ARQs are not over sharpened out of imaging edge as they once were. The

Yea I need to go test this on Big Bronco now that im back from my gig in LA. From what I did at the hotel it looks amazingly good.

If anyone is looking for an a7rv, I suggest Greentoe. I submitted this lowball offer not thinking it would be accepted. Well about ten minutes later it was. I saved myself roughly $750 between the accepted offer, and the tax I didn’t have to pay. Needless to say I’m stoked.

Someone was selling a couple of brand new A7R5 here on the boards for $3350 couple of days ago..... but getting a new one with a receipt for $3500 is a good deal too! I use greentoe all the time. I actually made an offer for A1 couple of days ago there and the immediate counteroffer was $5300. Thats's immediate, meaning there must be some more room to negotiate on A1......

I admin, I never played around with pixel shift on my a7R III. My general impression was that it didn't seem to buy you much.

But I decided to shoot a few yesterday when shooting one of the waterfalls I like to photograph. I wasn't expecting much, wasn't sure how it would handle the moving water, long exposure, etc.

But holy moly....cropped to 70% to the right side of the frame. Both sharpened in Topaz Sharpen AI.

Wondering if the FM uploader is compressing or something is going on here because I'm having a hard time seeing a "holy moly" difference. If I'm honest I'm having a hard time seeing any difference. Where should I be looking?

The usability of Pixel shift is a big deal to me so I'm genuinely interested. Thanks.

Looks great.

You may not see much here on the forum or web but a good system at home with good monitor you will pick it up. I’m hearing 4 shots is better than 16 with pixel shift. I still need to run more tests myself

I provided links to the full resolution files, I have to believe he just didn't see those links. They kind of do show off to the side so they are easy to miss.

Here are the links to the 100% files (right 70% of the image) again, don't think I need to label them. One is normal (non-pixel shift) shot, the other is 16 shot pixel shift.

https://www.devine.photography/img/s/v-10/p1361337965.jpg
https://www.devine.photography/img/s/v-10/p1361337593.jpg

May have oversharpened the non-pixel shift version a little.

A 4 shot pixel shift will not have to interpolate color and will give you a 60 MP image. But the 16 shot approach will not have to interpolate color either and give you a 240 MP image. Obviously the question is, do you really need that higher resolution? And of course the more shots involved, the more chance something will go wrong. One nice bonus is that any single pixel shift RAW file can be used on its own and processed like a normal image.

If it's not easy to see the difference, make sure you are viewing at 100%.

How long after release does it take for Sony to discount these? Is it only after its successor is announced/released?

Couple of things I have noticed:

-The viewfinder and the LCD monitor look pretty different. Even the colors look slightly different. The LCD in general is much brighter and nicer than the R4 except:

-You can see vertical lines on the images maybe due to the brightness. Once I saw them, I can't unsee them.

The rear screen on my A7RV is not very bright and I don't see vertical lines. I wish it was brighter. I use the very good EVF almost all the time now, unless I shoot low and/or portrait where the articulated screen is very convenient.

Just in case, you are not aware of the setting - similar to other Sony cameras, the brightness of the LCD can be adjusted either manually or set to "Auto". In the Auto setting, it will adjust automatically to the brightness of the surrounding.

Joshua - I can set my viewfinder to auto, but my lcd monitor seems to allow only a choice between “sunny weather” and manual. Can you tell me how you set the monitor to auto? Thanks!

Eric, you are correct, the LCD can be set to either manual or "Sunny Weather" only. Sorry...

Very interesting. The vertical lines on the LCD were reported on dpreview (rip) and digging around, it appears to affect al models, but maybe only if you are OCD like me?

Otherwise, maybe different panels are being used for the LCD.

I have pretty darned good vision (20/15) and no astigmatism. I have been very impressed with both the EVF AND the LCD on the A7RV. Having had a Canon R5 and OM-1 prior which were no slouches, I feel the contrast and color on my A7RV are a step UP. The EVF is on another level all together. I have left the settings on auto with no need or desire to change them. I too have not seen ANY flaws in the output reported by others such as lines on the LCD. Indoor or outdoor. Frankly most often, I don't even bother to turn the LCD out when shooting. I prefer the EVF as it's more detailed in general of course with higher resolution. I don't always review when I'm shooting and it's served me well. This thing hits what I'm aiming at that's for sure. Moving or not.

Not sure what happened but I think I see some better brightness for the rear LCD in "Sunny weather" mode than before. I recently updated to the fw 2.0 and had to remove the battery a couple of times because the camera froze after 2.0. Not sure if that did some reset but until recently the brightness was weak and made it unusable outdoor in the sun. Use it mostly to review the pictures, the double tap to zoom in or out, and touch to move in the frame are very convenient for that.

I pulled a trigger on a7rV and completely forgot about Loxia/CV issues. Are they present?

Yes, although after the latest firmware I haven't had it happen with my Loxia 21. Granted I haven't used it much. Never had a problem with my CV 35 and 50. Had it happen with my CV 15, used it briefly after the firmware update and it didn't happen.

Bottom line is that I can't say definitively. But I haven't had it happen since upgrading the a7R V firmware.

I understand, this may be an individual thing applicable to specific lens/camera combination. However, I can imaging how changes to firmware may remedy the situation. Will see when it arrives. Can keep a7rIV for manual shooting as well.

My safari m11 does not color match my lenses as well as reporter m11 - immediate reshuffle is required. That is a first world problem.
