Bestbuy online says next Thursday or Friday for me...none in stock around me. If it is actually stocked at some stores, I suspect it's the ones in major cities.

I haven't been able to leave the house to shoot it, but I can already tell I'm going to be very happy.

It's funny that you could walk into the store and pick one up and get it before those of us who preordered it.

Well my A7RV arrived and as I said previously my current plan is to use along side my A1. It will mostly be used for landscape, architecture, and other areas where 20-30 fps is not a requirement. The A1 is setup for BIF. As I said earlier also earlier it replaces the A7RIV AND A7IV (I hope) I sold so it’s cost neutral I tell myself. Just a few quick notes. I don’t plan to go out and spend 3Oo to 500 on CFexpress card now. Using high quality UHS-II with V90 capability I’m sure will work for what I plan to use it for. One key area that needs evaluation is how are the colors? Are the better, like the A7IV is. I’m hoping so, it’s one of the reason I think it’s worth it for me. If they are not then maybe I will have to rethink this.

A few side notes. Sony’s screen protector is out of stock and the two I found on Amazon for the RV are probably mid January delivery. The RRS L-bracket from my A7RIV fits it just fine as does the SmallRig one for the A7IV. Haven’t tried my VG-C4EM battery grip I use on the A1 hasn’t been tried yet but I have know worries about that.

While I mostly use LightRoom I know my copy of Capture One 23 supports the ARW files so I plan to shoot both RAW+HEIF for awhile with Lossless Compressed and see how that goes. Will know more after the weekend.

Now we need a forum for users to share the things we learned.

Exactly, most of us don't need these expensive CFE -Type A cards. But after a few deep discounts/specials deals I somehow ended up with four! I can't remember the last time an SD card came even close to my A1 🙃

Curious to know if your A1 battery grip fits the A7rV--I'm guessing it does since I think both cameras are the same form factor at least where the grip will attach?

Yea I wound up with 3 80s and one 160. Like to get another 160. I like for download speed. That I need best I can get and I like their construction better. But you can save here too

Your grip should fit

In case anyone's interested, I tested my ROGETI L-bracket from A1 on the A7R5, and it fits it pretty much like a glove with no restriction to screen tilt and with all ports accessible (I can take some photos if anyone wants).
The flippy screen is something to get used to, but setting it up so I can use it in portrait orientation is really cool (and being able to flip it around to hide the LCD). I tried to see if my LCD protector from A1 (I got a 2nd protector as backup) would fit, but it does not appear to be so, the new screen is somewhat larger.

Same with me. The SD cards I use in my a7R III are sort of on the small size and I've used them for many years. When I went looking at getting larger ones, I stumbled into a couple of Lexar deals. So I ended up with 4 160 GB type A cards as well.

Anyone feel like hand grip very uncomfortable compared to a7 3? It digs into my middle finger very hard.

Yea same here for my A1. Had the Sony SD tough cards, but found a used CFE-A 160GM Sony card on the B&S, and then found another one on sale last week, so now I'm switched over. Guess I'm good for a long while on cards...

Been waiting for you to get out there. One favor try electronic shutter in crop mode that’s where I would use it . Shoot a car going by. This alone could push me over the edge. Regardless of what the couple trolls here say which I have ignored I see some real value in this cam. I can get a good price on one

Will see what I can do. Tomorrow and Friday are out, weekend looks iffy in terms of weather...but I'll have to get out and shoot something.

Tim, you should try it on some some eagles in Conowingo on Friday, weather is looking good!

Have jury selection for jury duty on Friday. Then I have jury duty next week. My plan was to go down to Conowingo on Saturday or Sunday, but neither day is looking very good now. Maybe Saturday is a little more favorable.

But that was my plan....just not sure it will make sense with the weather.

Regardless of results you can get the feel of it and get your setup going. That’s worth it. I know been waiting days for weather to clear.

Just read this in the specs. Is the mech quieter than other a7r units

A shutter unit with a fast-response motor minimizes mechanical shutter vibration that can cause blur, while allowing high-speed continuous shooting at up to 10 fps. The shutter is quiet and has been tested for durability in excess of 500, 000 shutter cycles.

The shutter sounds about half as loud as A7R3, and about on par with A1 (in non-silent mode). It certainly feels more dampened than the older camera.

I remember the original a7R, it sounded like an electric stapler.

I may be the only person who does this, but I've been shooting focus stacks hand held with the A7RV, with very good results. I can't figure out how to stack using Imaging Edge (where is that function hidden?) but I've exported TIFFS from there and stacked them in Photoshop. The only issue I had with motion was some flapping flags over a car dealer. Otherwise, everything is sharp from near to far; no other problem aligning or merging. I've been using a 35mm lens at f5.6 or f8 with stacking set to the widest focus spacing (10) and six images. The camera often finishes with fewer than six because it reaches infinity sooner--sometimes as few as two images. For some of the street landscape work I do, with near/far subject matter, this is a pretty big deal. So is the wider envelope of shutter speeds.

The battery definitely runs out quicker than with the RIV, especially using the higher rez viewfinder setting and focus bracketing. Not a big deal for me.

My poor man's iPhone decibel app put the a7R III at max of 76.2, the a7R V was 65.
