I may be the only person who does this, but I've been shooting focus stacks hand held with the A7RV, with very good results. I can't figure out how to stack using Imaging Edge (where is that function hidden?) but I've exported TIFFS from there and stacked them in Photoshop. The only issue I had with motion was some flapping flags over a car dealer. Otherwise, everything is sharp from near to far; no other problem aligning or merging. I've been using a 35mm lens at f5.6 or f8 with stacking set to the widest focus spacing (10) and six images. The camera often finishes with fewer than six because it reaches infinity sooner--sometimes as few as two images. For some of the street landscape work I do, with near/far subject matter, this is a pretty big deal. So is the wider envelope of shutter speeds.
The battery definitely runs out quicker than with the RIV, especially using the higher rez viewfinder setting and focus bracketing. Not a big deal for me.
