I don't purport that my opinion is fact since it is just my opinion ...
Having managed several technology companies (sw and hw manufacturing), I understand the complexities of decision making re: features, pricing, marketing, etc but I am retired, not on Sony's BOD, so I don't care who Sony has determined is the target mkt is for the R5 or the considerations involved in the pricing, manufacturing, etc.
I do care if it has a compelling set of features at a price I am okay with.
Having owned the Nex-5, a6000, RX100IV, A7R2, A7R3, A7R4, RX100VII (2) ,A7C (2), A74, I can be easily characterized as somebody who enjoys upgrading when there is a perceived benefit for MY needs & interests at that point in time.
Prior to each upgrade, I research what is avail and often rent other manufacturer's gear's. Everybody's gear has some compromises. Re: Sony, I was not interested in the A9x or A1 since I zero need for more then 5-10 fps and even the NEX-5 had a fast enough readout speed for my landscape and travel needs.
I enjoy all aspects of photography, including the use of the equipment and the R5 has enough compelling features for me to purchase it. Do I wish the R5 was less expensive .. sure! but the price is the price and for me, I have determined it to be acceptable
It is much more camera then I need for my hobby... as is just about any APS-C or FF camera released in the last few years but I will enjoy using it and pursuing my photographic hobby. I am fortunate in that is the only justification I need
