Leica is redesigning the ventilated hood to eliminate vignetting when using filters. Meanwhile, you can consider purchasing a metal hood from eBay (link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/264632460681) for $7. When needed, I personally use it with regular ND filter and have not experienced any vignetting issues.
Here is how it looks on the lens:
This Rainbow Imaging hood is certainly low-profile. Thanks for posting this evil-bay link.
As for whether to buy a re-issued Steel Rim lens, that is still a “maybe.” I very nearly bought one, when Leica USA had some in stock, recently. I was willing to tolerate the hood situation, and just about ready to risk the other user-reported problems.
Just as well I did not, because the home behind us was demolished, and with it, the tall privacy fence, leaving only a chain link fence too low to contain out larger dogs, and even that chain link fabric was damaged. I learned that both fences had actually been erected by the former owner of the property behind us, so we did not suffer a “loss,” as the new owner, a developer, was actually free to demolish both fences. I spent ~$1K on fence panels, to erect an emergency fence, and will probably spend several hundred more, this week. (We have a pool, so, MUST have adequate fencing. Then, our refrigerator just stopped adequately cooling. And, to validate the superstation that things happen in threes, our aging roof suddenly developed two new issues. A credit card, that had a balance of zero, now has a considerable balance. Such is life. I reckon that this “is a sign,” as my deeply religious mother would say.
Lens additions, whether re-issued Steel Rim, a locally-available pre-ASPH, or Nokton 35mm f/1.4 VM, should wait.
