Superb set Morris, what beauties these elk are.
Thank you Louie,
It was a joy seeing them and I have already complemented my wife for finding the opportunity to photograph them during the rut

I consider myself lucky when a subject moves "too close". There's nothing wrong with head shots (especially with a pair of antlers like that bull ), and I love the opportunity to get more detail (is that more relevant for birds?) without feeling guilty about disturbing the wildlife. Admittedly I've never had that experience with big mammals, which might be a little intimidating.
Thank you Peter,
I thought about the advice to be at least 100 yards away as they moved closer. Everyone was respecting them and enjoying the opportunity to be close so the elk continued there usual behavior. Because of this I was comfortable even when they were too close for photos and that was just for a moment were I moved from behind the camera and simply enjoyed.

Great set Morris. I really like 4 for the bugling bull and 7 for the background. Nice to have the problem of too much reach.
Dave
Thank you Dave. The problem was also a few moments when I got to ignore the camera and enjoy watching them

I absolutely love #5 Morris, big print on that one! The light was soft and warm and wonderful, very pleasing to the eye on this set. My suggestion .........get a zoom
Karl
Thank you Karl,
Ya, took a lit of images of them bugling. I left the 70-300 behind as I never dreamed this would happen. Not really a problem as I got plenty of great opportunities at a distance
