If by "do both" you mean go to photograph both east and west coast fall colors...
... I did that this year! :-)
We made it to New England in early October and got to photograph quite a bit in New Hampshire, hitting both the iconic Kancamagus Highway area and some less obvious spots at what turned out to be this year's peak of color there. It was a great experience — while different than photographing in my familiar Sierra Nevada, I was able to leverage my long Sierra experience in the Northeast, too. We'll likely go again.

And...
... soon after we returned I managed to spend the better part of a week in the Eastern Sierra photographing that familiar landscape. To be honest, I thought I was going to be too late for good color, since I usually photograph there mostly in the first two weeks of the month and my visit would be in week three. But the relatively benign autumn weather this year — no big storms or major wind events — meant that a lot of late-season aspens were showing excellent color.
I'm still working on those photographs, but I'll try to post a thread with them in the Landscape Forum before too long.
