Shouldn't be that much difference adapted to Nikon though right? When we're talking DSLR to mirrorless, the adapter can make the whole solution much larger. But the flange distance difference between Z and E is 2mm. So it would add 2mm to the overall length and then would add the weight of the adapter.

You're right: the Megadap ETZ21 adapter is remarkably thin. I had no idea

I am generous so I'll help you:

According to your reasoning, both Sony 28-60 and Nikon Z 24-50 are a waste of time, for both lens designers and manpower employed in production plants.
In two words, manufacturers' sadism
Interesting.

I'm saying you already have the 24-70 F4, a lens that is in all regards except size superior to the options you're considering. Better optics, better range, better aperture, for not much more size weight.

I understand perfectly your point. However, I do not agree with your statement "for not much more size weight".
I guess manufacturers too do not agree with you
Why Nikon should offer two "kit zooms" (24-70/4 S & 24-50/4-6.3) Just to allow people to save money?
Let's see figures:
Z5 w/24-50/4-6.3 price is 1739 €;
z5 w/24-70/4 price is 2079 €, i.e. about 20% more.
I'm not sure people do opt for the cheaper alternative to save 20%.
With a similar reasoning, why does Sony offer the compact and lightweight A7C vs A7 III (both 24 Mpix)? The latter costs 20% more. People opting for the A7C love its size and weight, despite of the poorer ergonomics.

Yes, I understand your point. Having 14-30 & 70-200/4 VR, I could limit to just 28-60+ETZ21, as a lightweight alternative to my 24-70/4 S.
The 24-50 Z reviews I read didn't impress me at all ...

The reviews may not be that impressive but imo in real life - within it's limitations - the Z 24-50mm performs really well.
As a lightweight/compact option for daylight shooting on a Z6/7 it is very much ok.

Some examples (on a Z6).
