Luminar can replace the sky with another at the click of a button.

Photoshop can do anything your mind can think of.

Photoshop is the most powerful. It can do almost anything. It can replace the sky with just a few clicks, or change the color with similar ease. Advanced features have a big learning curve.

On1 software can change the color, or replace the sky in basically one or two clicks. It is fairly powerful and has a much lower learning curve than Photoshop.

Luminar is probably the most automated for sky replacement and other things. Very low learning curve.

Of course you realize that the problem with the posted image is that the bird itself is very soft. On1 can help with that too.

First, advice you asked for: using Photoshop's Oil Painting filter, I did this in about 30 seconds. No clue if that's what you're after, but it's what you described.

Second, advice you didn't ask for: you need to focus your efforts on capturing your subjects with more detail instead of worrying about post processing. This is blunt, and it's meant to be. Who told you that I am trying to impress any one with the photo I used for the question.

For the topic of the thread and for the question I am asking I could have used a photo taken by a cheap phone. But that is not the topic of the thread.

This question will probably be answered with less snark in the post processing forum

The background is so uniform that the magic wand tool in Photoshop (with half a dozen small manual adjustments) allows you to isolate the egret and then put whatever background you want on a separate layer.

1) Select magic wand tool
2) Click on the blue sky
3) Zoom in and start shift clicking on additional blue areas - between the legs, some in the wings
4) Hold the alt button and click on the mask layer - this will create a mask layer that blocks the sky
5) Create a new layer and move it below the one that contains the egret
6) Paste whatever backgrounds you want there - rainbows, dolphins, tanks, nuclear missles, smirfs, flaming red sky, etc

If you do this I suggest you expand the canvas before the bird and give it some space to "fly into" instead of flying out of the frame like the image two posts above.

There are at least a dozen ways to do this in PS - color replacement, one of the luminosity panels (Tk, Lumenzia, etc), selective color tool, etc.

Procedure on how to make soft photo like this ?

1-Set your shutter speed to 2500 1/s
why : because used to photo large birds with low angular speed(slow panning) means the bird is not very close and freezing the wings is not a preference.
2-Convince the bird to suddenly appear over your head from behind a tree.
3-It is a big bird OK and very close but the angle changing fast, causing the panning to be irregular.
3-Take the shot

Now that is the procedure of how you lose an excellent opportunity to have sharp photo with world class equipment.

That will be great if it was robust. In this case auto subject detection misses even something as obvious as the sky between the legs (you can see that in some of the edits posted in this thread, probably because they were done quickly for the sake of snark) and the relatively large opening on the upper portion of the wing. If you look closer around the edges of the bird, particularly in the leg area, you can also see a number of questionable choices that the magic wand deals with much better at least for this particular image, e.g. the heavy "staircasing" of the selection along diagonal straight lines, for example the tail above the feet. And let's not even mention the space between the toes on the feet, or the specs on the wings, particularly immediately below the body. Try to put a flaming orange sunset behind the bird and these will stand out like a sore thumb.

When it comes to post processing I rarely trust automated tools. Yes, they are getting better, for example content aware fill, but stuff like focus stacking, exposure blending, sky replacement, etc, are still much better done by hand, at least if you want them done right. Perhaps some day in the future, when subject selection becomes sentient...
