We had a very welcomed visitor last evening at our bird feeders just as it was getting dark. Had to drop down to 1/10 and I couldn't get AF to work due to being so dark out so I had to scramble to manually focus as best I could as he wasn't interested in having a conversation with me. It didn't help matters any that I'm sick with covid right now and a little brain dead.

This is the biggest bear I've ever seen here at the house. Our feeders are 8 foot above the ground and he had no problem reaching up and yanking one of them down. A very healthy and handsome big boy that I'm guessing would tip the scales at about 400 lbs maybe more. I was within 15 feet of him when I stepped out on the porch and it was a little intimidating to see the size of him that close. I tried talking with him as I was trying to get focus but he wanted no part of the conversation.
Hope he stays around our area this winter and visits some more in better light.

Images aren't anything great but for documentary purposes they'll work.

No not really down here in the south. They go into a semi hibernation where they will sleep for days at a time or even a few weeks, then get back up to find something to eat. Then repeat until spring.

From the looks of this guy, he's skipped nap time and is filling his belly with anything he can find. Which is normally peoples bird feeders, corn piles put out by deer hunters and of course peoples trash.
