Rajan, beautiful capture! Would have never guessed that type of fall colors in Iceland. Patches of colors seems intense. The fist image is quite interesting with moss covered lava field, black lava rocks and the patch of orange. Beautiful 👍🏻
During my Highland tour, I was told that Icelandic people have used lava field moss to make mattresses. I did get a chance to walk on them and it really is quite thick and soft. Quite interesting.
Parul,
Great to hear you can identify with some of these scenes. Having been in these places does make a difference.
Fall in Iceland is quite different from the Fall colour one associates with places like, say, New England. For one thing, the season here is blink-and-you-miss-it kind of brief. Then, there are no big trees or forests (*) here. The colour comes from the ripening birch and rowans for the most part, both of which are native to Iceland, with a mix of larch, poplar and aspens thrown in. But the other major component of colour is the riot that are the mountain slopes with wild berry shrubbery turning.
* Old joke - what do you do if you get lost in an Icelandic forest? Answer: Stand up.
