What is the current tariff situation with lenses from UK or EU? A while back I purchased an M10M body from Leica Vienna with no duty paid. When I ordered a 28 Elmarit from the same shop, the duty brought the price up to what I would have paid in the States. Something about the difference is how these items are listed on the tariff schedule.

When was that? During the Trump administration there was a 25% tariff on some German products, including optics, which affected Leica. It's why Leica offered versions of some lenses 'Made in Portugal' at the pre-tariff prices. From my understanding, those tariffs are no longer in effect and you could confirm in the tariff schedule linked earlier.

That's the thing. There is no mystery here. The tariff schedule is online for anyone to research.

That must be it then. I purchased the 28mm Elmarit in June 2020.

Thanks - very helpful. I had to stare a bit at the Rates of Duty and dig into the explanatory notes - it shows a 20% tariff but that's for products made in places like North Korea and Russia. Clearly as of now there should be no duty on lenses (camera "parts and accessories thereof").

Who is the dealer? I didn't get that from Leica Manchester.

I just checked my invoice - I was not charged that. Also I checked the site, and yes that is new...
I would clarify with them what that is for. Is it for the paperwork they are submitting to DHL so DHL doesn't turn around and stiff you on an import fee? Or is it a new charge?

or maybe to offset cc charges?...ie.pay us direct deposit?...or simply, why not to make extra 2%...sort of like car dealers here
DHL charges around CAD20-25 in Kanadastan....this is 2%

actually it kicked in jan1.23...charge related to shipping

my bad...the date in that table is 1/1/22...not 23...then I dont know what is going on...asked Man Leica for explanation...waiting

tried to communicate with them re exporting...got strange explanations how they do it...
gave up

according to their website they have a lot of stock..almost anything in leica, zeiss line..

So far everything I wanted to see (Voigtlander/Zeiss/Leica) they had. I never asked for an APO though so don't know if they stock those
