If you buy in EU you should talk to the shop, little shop usually do not offer tax refund service, so you have to deal with brokers, they often got an office on main internationals airports. A call or a mail can give you answers.
Used goods in EU are taxes free.

About shooes, the best are have them custom-made

Ok , just checked my credit card statement.  I was charged $4294.65 for the new M6 to be delivered from the UK to the US.

If I bought it here in the US it would cost me $5295 + tax = $5798.  So I saved $1503.  And it comes w full international warranty.

Still waiting for delivery though....

Congratulations on your new camera!

I am looking forward to your experience with the new M-6.

Sounds like an excellent deal.

Did you use Leica Manchester? Only issue I had on customs was an extra battery ordered because that was listed as “made in China”

Yes, Leica Manchester. I was going to use reddot but they wouldn’t take credit cards, and I like the miles I get on my CC!
Didn’t order any batteries, I figure I can go to CVS to get a couple of 1.5v button cells.

Thanks Steve. Honestly it is just going to be like any other film M. Just in a different finish! Matte black paint.
I really did this because the deal is so good right now due to the weak GBP. It’s cheaper than buying a used MP in the US!

Just an FYI. I recently purchased a lens from a seller in Canada. No problems at all with the seller or the lens. This was the first time a seller shipped it via FedEx (instead of Canada Post) to me in Ohio.
FedEx delivered the package, no problem, no fees or duty tax on delivery. I thought all was well.
A week later I get a bill in the mail from FedEx for $60.00 along with a lot of paperwork stating it was for import tax and fees on the lens. Just a heads up, I learned a lesson there.

I’ve had weird experiences from Canada but not from Europe.

Yup, you don’t want a FedEx shipment from Canada. Regular mail is best (Canada Post and USPS). FedEx is the worst.

One thing to consider is if you live in a state with local state tax, U.S. Customs shares import values to state tax authorities on values over a certain amount. This is different from import duties as it's state + municipal sales tax. In California for example you'll get a "Use Tax owed" letter from CDTFA for all imported goods after the end of the tax year. This can be close to 10% of the value of all imported items. Sometimes this can even happen a few years later and if you didn't volunteer to pay the "out of state purchase sales tax" at the time of tax filing, you get hit with the penalties and interest too. This can add up to quite a lot on high-value imports.

Something to consider as import duties are not the only thing to factor in when totaling the costs. You can do a search for this as many who have bought luxury watches or other items overseas get hit with a surprise bill from their state months or even years later.

Since you live in California, almost certainly you'll get a letter from California CDTFA next year to make sure you pay local and state taxes. If you've not submitted your Social Security to your carrier in the past for imported goods they may ask for it to clear customs. If you buy the camera with a B&H Payboo card you pay the sales tax (and thus fulfill local tax obligations) but the card refunds you the same amount on the bill. So all said and done the savings might amount to about $500 when importing vs buying locally from B&H with Payboo.

I'm in the market for the new M6 but I think I'd prefer to buy within the US as it would be a huge pain to ship the camera back and do an exchange on an imported camera if you receive it with any issues.

We'll see what happens. None of what you mentioned has happened to me before with large purchases from Europe.
Hopefully it wouldn't happen this time!

I'll keep peeps informed as a public service.

I ordered the M11 from Red Dot Cameras in the UK. With $46 for custom fees, the grand total for the camera came out to be $7,550. B&H is showing, with tax, $10,307. So...yeah, long live the King...

Mind sharing the carrier name? And was the $46 for customs duty or brokerage fees?

DHL - it was the import duty.

Now as somebody mentioned above, they did take my SSN so maybe I'll get another state tax bill in the future. However, I am still very sure that I'll be coming out way ahead.

Customs take your SSN if items over $2500 since they report it to the state amongst other things - even if California CDTFA doesn't send you a notice in a few months, you could be on the hook for penalties and interest later if you don't pay the state tax in your own reporting. You still come out ahead in paying state tax as long as no exchange needs to be done, otherwise, it becomes a huge headache.

And DHL scammed you.

There is no duty on interchangeable lens cameras imported from a country that is under the NTR classification.
Don't listen to DHL, use the actual US Govnmt rules and regulations as your evidence. You can see this here:
