I guess another way to look at the A7R5 is what feature would make you to drop your existing camera and lay down $4,000+ for the A7R5?

Makes you wonder what the killer feature is, if not increased resolution.

Maybe stacked sensor? I guess we can always dream. But without increase in resolution or fps, i think it will be a dud. 8k is also a possibility. But I'm not convinced 8k alone can drive that much sale at the A7r5 price.

I do think the improvements in the A7RV at this point are likely to be incremental and that the A7RV may not have enough that is new to drive an upgrade market. It may be like the A7IV or the iPhone 14 in that regard--if you haven't upgraded for a while or are new to the product, it may be appealing. But if you have a recent model, then the improvements are only marginal and not worth spending money on.

Especially in this new down-turn market we live in now. You see it with most consumer electronics and computers too; nobody feels like upgrading for small changes or marginal improvements.
People are keeping their money in their pockets, or are spending it on heating (at least here in Europe)

Since the new 40MP APS-C sensor in the Fuji X-H2 is presumably made by Sony, and assuming they could make a full-frame sensor with the same pixel pitch, that would be around 94MP, give or take a few pixels.

Should I pass this on to SAR, so they can "confirm" it?

I would like a quad pixel AF that would eliminate the white line artifacts when shooting into the sun. like the Sony sensor in the OM-1 has.

I would love a wider Phase-AF coverage than in the A7R IV.

Especially when photographing people in portrait format I often miss that 13% on each side.

- the new processor in their latest bodies
- 10 bit video
- 14fps electronic, 10fps mechanica
- higher flash sync speed but less than a1
- bird/animal AF in pics and video
- downsampled 4k60 in full frame
- the killer feature - I think they may debut a new AF focusing system

Interesting. I think this would be an appealing update IF there really were a new AF system. Their current system leads the competition (I think?). Do they need a new one? What could it do better than the A1, A9/II, and the A7C?

I think it's also a matter of keeping ahead. The A7RIV's sensor is in the Sigma fpL and Leica M11 already. It's essentially old news and not a unique selling point anymore. Even the FX30 got a new sensor.
It has to be something new with a new unique selling point. An A7RII -> A7RIII upgrade isn't worthwhile to people I don't think.

It was, due to battery and ergos and better af. But I get your point - there must be something in the new product to attract users to update. Besides narrow group uograding from a9 to a9ii was not profitable enough.

For me it would be a quicker sensor with usable es for slow action. 10fps mech/15 electronic.

Let’s not forget the new photographer market. It’s not only about upgrades, there are new photographers entering every day.

That is true but in case of new photographers it is a brand competition and we would have to compare not only upgrades in one company but also other companies - an entire market.
