Do they ship it back via UPS? USPS? Or FedEx?

In my neck of the woods Fedex is "dump and run." Doorbells are ignored and they often just throw the box at the door. I recently bought a used IR camera on ebay. I got no notification at all. It was left in the vicinity of the stoop. Maintenance saw it and gave it to me.

tracking is a bad joke. It stops when the package reaches the Chicago hub. After that a Ouija Board works better.

CPS Canada uses Purolator. When they ship your gear back to you it is insured. However when you ship to CPS, Purolator will not insure used electronics or glass. This pretty much covers all bodies and lenses. They won’t even if you are willing to pay for it. CPS Canada clearly states you are responsible to insure your gear when you use Purolator to ship to CPS, even if you use the supplied shipping labels.

I looked into that. Even with my home policy that included camera gear didn't cover shipping. If I wanted to include that it would have been pro level (earning a living from photography) and cost so much more it wasn't worth. I looked for independent companies that offered camera specific insurance for shipping and still a no go. If I was a working pro then yes, I would insure my gear appropriately.

I contacted CPS about this multiple times and they were not interested. They offer the Gold program for non professionals but use a company that won't insure gear I ship, even if I'm willing to pay for it. After many efforts I gave up and dropped my CPS membership.

Just a heads up to members in Canada. If you are a CPS member check your personal shipping insurance policies.

Fedex, body wrapped in plastic secured by rubber bands wrapped in padded shipping paper, dumped on the front porch.

Same here, with particular emphasis on dumped on the front porch. I've never been required to sign for CPS packages, even though they state it's required. Fedex dumps and runs as if their life depends on it
