Im looking at getting a sony a7iv or a9 gen 1 and plan to shoot mostly landscapes/sports. I had a a7riv in the past but returned it due to not being super happy with the autofocus.

However, my wife really wants to take macro shots. What is a good budget beginner macro lens? She wants as close up as possible pics. Manual focus is fine, but would prefer electrically connected since she is a beginner shooter.

Will your wife be using your Sony for her macro?

When your wife want to get "as close up as possible" that will depend on the size of the subject. What sort of subjects and a likely size range?

Take a look here:

I have been shooting macro for decades and find AF mostly unhelpful.

I don't suppose you use flash much for landscapes. I use it for many macro subjects and automated metering saves a lot of calculations.

If you can find one, this is probably the best choice (at the price), although it can only be used for macro on full frame, vignetting at distance settings. This is one of two lenses for macro on my A7r3, although I mostly use my Olympus m4/3.
