I'm pretty sure the latest Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM |S is a current lens still serviced by Sigma. You can find them used for $2300 to $3000 with a bit of looking. This would be my choice. What you lose in some speed and perhaps sharpness compared to a 300 2.8 IS V2 you make up for with versatility and cost.

The RF 70-200 2.8 does not accept teleconverters.

EDIT - oops - i see this was mentioned before.

I think the 100-500 would be fast enough especially if you stick to 400.
